The Bucyrus Police Department is proud to announce we are starting the Public Safety Cadet Program headed by Ofc. Johnson. If you attend school in Crawford County, you are eligible to sign up for this wonderful program.

Meet The Cop
Officer Dusty Johnson has been with the department for 3 1/2 years and has been a member of the ICAC Task Force and does a phenomenal job for our department. We are also excited to announce that the Police Public Saftey Cadet program is starting back up. Two more Announcements are the Spooktacular event Oct 24th from 4-7pm at Schine’s art Park downtown Bucyrus. We apologize with the video saying 2-4pm. Another important announcement is the Cops and Kids Christmas will be starting back up and we are excited to get that rolling! Thank you everyone and thank you Ofc. We are pleased to share that Officer Wireman has been released from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center today following treatment for injuries sustained during the incident that occurred on 9-14-2026.

Officer Wireman received care from the surgical team at Wexner Medical Center and is now continuing his recovery surrounded by family, friends, and fellow members of the department. He will continue to receive appropriate follow-up care as he works toward a full recovery.

We would like to thank the dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff at Wexner Medical Center for their care, as well as our law enforcement partners, first responders, and members of the community who have offered their support, prayers, and well wishes.

Please continue to keep Officer Wireman and his family in your thoughts as he begins the next phase of his recovery.

🚨 Bucyrus Police Department Incident Update 🚨

On September 14, 2026, the Bucyrus Police Department was investigating a Breaking and Entering that occurred late in the evening. During the course of the investigation, officers identified a suspect.

As officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, the suspect resisted arrest and escaped from officers, prompting an immediate pursuit.

During the pursuit, K9 Officer Wireman fell into an empty pond and sustained serious injuries. Officer Wireman was transported for medical care and is currently in stable condition. At this time, we will not be releasing the location where Officer Wireman was transported.

Other BPD officers continued the pursuit, and a perimeter was established. Bucyrus Police officers, assisted by deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, successfully contained the area. The suspect was ultimately located on E. Rensselaer Street.

The suspect continued to resist arrest but was apprehended without further incident. Two additional BPD officers sustained injuries during the struggle. Fortunately, their injuries did not require serious medical treatment.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Justice Center, where they will be held pending review of the charges by the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect’s name and specific charges are being withheld at this time pending that review.

The Bucyrus Police Department would like to commend all of our officers for their professionalism, dedication, and outstanding teamwork throughout this incident. Their efforts helped bring this situation to a safe conclusion while protecting our community.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Bucyrus Fire Department for responding to the scene, assisting our injured officers, and providing Officer Wireman with the care he needed.

Finally, we thank the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and its deputies for their assistance and support during the incident.

Please keep Officer Wireman and all of our injured officers in your thoughts as they recover.

Recent S*x Crime Investigations & Indictments

The following cases are the result of investigations conducted by members of our department, in coordination with other agencies when applicable. The individuals listed below were arrested and/or indicted on the charges stated:

Gregory Blankenship

20 counts of R**e (F1)
Officer Johnson led an investigation alongside Crawford County CPS regarding allegations of r**e involving a juvenile family member.
A warrant was issued, resulting in Blankenship’s arrest and subsequent indictment on the above charges.

Derek Keeler
Importuning (F5)
Disseminating Matter Harmful to Juveniles (F5)
Officer Johnson led a proactive investigation involving a 28-year-old male from Michigan who solicited s*x from an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old female.
Keeler was arrested on a warrant and extradited to the Crawford County Jail on our charges.
Keeler was later indicted on the above charges.

Gage “Carson “Albright
2 counts of Unlawful S*xual Conduct with a Minor (F4)
Officer Johnson conducted an investigation into a complaint regarding s*xual conduct between 21-year-old Gage Dewiel and a juvenile.
A warrant was issued, and Dewiel was arrested and later indicted on the above charges.

Shane Tillery
Sending Private Images (F5)
Officers Johnson and Cox conducted an investigation into explicit images/videos being sent without the permission of another individual.
A warrant was issued, resulting in Tillery’s arrest. He was later indicted on the above charge.

Kristopher Burns
Unlawful S*xual Conduct with a Minor (F3)
S*xual Battery (F3)
Officer T. Carver conducted an investigation into allegations of s*xual conduct occurring between Burns and a juvenile household member.
Burns was arrested at the scene and later indicted on the above charges.

We appreciate the work of our officers and partner agencies in investigating these allegations and ensuring cases are appropriately presented through the criminal justice system.

An agency thrives when it has officers that are empowered to use their skills and interest in the various aspects of law enforcement to accomplish the overall goal of a safe community for all.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
