Narcotics arrest:

On 5-5-2026 at approximately 11:58 pm after a collective surveillance effort of an individual believed to be bringing illegal narcotics into the city was conducted by Officers M.Graves, Huff, and Wireman assisted by Officers T.Carver, Fackler, Auxiliary Officers B. Hunt, and B. Hunt, a traffic stop was conducted in the area of Rogers Street and Short Street.

The target individual identified as Paul Stander was discovered to be holding and attempting to conceal approximately 6.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine in his right hand. When Officer Wireman observed the narcotics Stander was taken into custody without incident.

K-9 Capone was deployed on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was conducted yielding no further evidence.

Stander was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center to be held for court on the following charge:

Possession of Schedule I or II drugs - Bulk Amount Methamphetamine (F-3)

This is another great example of the collective effort of our patrol division taking advantage of shift overlap manpower and the support of the Auxiliary Unit to proactively seek out the criminal element and hold these individuals accountable.

Arrest of armed individual :

On 5-30-2026 at approximately 8:23 pm our department received a call in reference to a man armed with a knife and yelling threats to harm himself and others at Millennium Park “Fountain at Washington Square”.

Both officers on duty were currently on a traffic stop with a suspected impaired driver causing only one officer to be able to respond.

Officer Wireman responded to the area and observed the male later identified as Jacob Massie holding a large knife and yelling profanities and threatening to kill officers. Massie had dropped the knife on his book bag as Officer Wireman arrived and deployed K-9 Capone as a visual deterrent and approached while giving commands to get on the ground.

Massie complied with commands to get on the ground while remaining verbally non compliant and threatening resistance while he was covered at gunpoint with K-9 Capone present until Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office arrived. Upon deputies arrival they assisted in taking Massie into custody without further incident.

Massie again became disruptive while in the cruiser and began taunting K-9 Capone. He was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center and held for court on the following charges:

Disorderly conduct persistent
M-4

Aggravated Menacing
M-1

Harrasing a police dog
M-2

We would like to thank the Crawford County Sheriff's Office for their assistance.
