The Bucyrus Police Auxiliary Unit is looking for individuals who want to help the community and its law enforcement officers.

The Police Auxiliary Unit is made up of individuals who volunteer their time to assist with community events and the day-to-day operations of the Bucyrus Police Department. Auxiliary Officers serve alongside full-time sworn officers during their daily duties, assisting with many different tasks.

Minimum requirements to join the Auxiliary Unit include: at least 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED equivalent, no criminal record or conviction of a violent nature or moral turpitude, and a valid Ohio driver's license.

You are not required to possess an OPOTA certification to be an Auxiliary Officer with our department (non-sworn position).

We would like to thank Auxiliary Sergeant Huff and Auxiliary Officers Carr, Eisenaugle,Vanichek, (Blauser - Not pictured) for their assistance during Friday nights concert and festival detail.

These officers supplement our full time staff providing assistance and acting as a force multiplier. We are very grateful for their continued dedication and desire to serve the citizens and visitors of our city .

Bucyrus Police Department – Non Sworn Volunteer Position

Join the dedicated men and women of the Bucyrus Police Auxiliary Unit in supporting public safety, special events, traffic control, and emergency operations.

✅ What You’ll Do
* Assist full-time officers at public events and in emergencies
* Support traffic and crowd control
* Aid in non-enforcement duties, such as perimeter security and patrol support while on patrol with a full time officer
* Be a visible presence to deter crime and promote public trust
* Train in law enforcement basics, safety, communication, and first aid

🧠 Training Provided:
Note: All training needed for this position is provided by the Bucyrus Police Department.

You DO NOT need to be OPOTA CERTIFIED OR HAVE ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE.

This is an entry level position to give those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement a better understanding of the job and real. World experience to give them a solid foundation to build upon.

* Basic Police Skills & Department Procedures
* Arrest, Search & Seizure (Support Role Only)
* Handcuffing Techniques
* Narcotics Safety & Narcan Use
* Traffic and Crowd Control
* First Aid & Emergency Operations
* Fi****ms handling and safety
Note: Auxiliary Officers do not carry fi****ms and may only use one under direct order from a full-time officer during direct threat situations.

* Age 18 or older and residing in Crawford County or an adjacent county (Richland,Morrow,Seneca,Huron, Wyandot,Marion)
* Interest in law enforcement
* Clean criminal and traffic record
* Valid driver's license
* High school diploma or equivalent certificate
* Committed to teamwork, safety, and public service
* Willing to train and volunteer regularly

Auxiliary Officer Spotlight:

Meet Auxiliary Officer Ethan Huff!

Officer Huff started with the Bucyrus Police Explorers Unit in February of 2019 while still in school. Upon turning 18 and graduating from Bucyrus High School he applied for and was accepted for an Auxiliary Officer position in July of 2023. Officer Huff has been a valuable member of our unit ever since.

He has assisted with public events, and often rides with officers on patrol assisting them with their duties.

Officer Huff is a big supporter of K9 Capone often volunteering his time and body to help train Capone in criminal apprehension. He also spends a majority of his time helping Officer Wireman and Capone as the find drugs and other criminal activity.

He has a goal to work as a full time officer with the Bucyrus Police Department or the Ohio State Highway Patrol in the next few years.
