During the month of November we had over 30 members participate in No Shave November. Through their efforts they raised awareness for men's cancer and mental health awareness. In addition, each member that participated made a personal contribution to the Movember movement, and FOP Lodge 122 matched the contributions for a total of over $1600 that was donated to this important initiative. Thank you to everyone that participated!

Fraud Alert!

Residents are receiving phone calls from 1 800-772-1213 (which is Social Security Administration’s actual phone number). They are being told that the person’s social security number has been compromised. During the course of the conversation they eventually convince the victim to send them money which then goes overseas. This scam is called “spoofing” where a person uses a program or app to call someone else and the phone number that appears on the victim’s caller ID is a different number than the actual number being used.

For example; someone overseas is calling someone in the states and uses a phone number that is familiar to the victim, such as the Social Security Administration.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THESE CALLS, NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION OR CONFIRM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION WILL NEVER CALL YOU ABOUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY BEING COMPROMISED, THEY WILL MAIL YOU A LETTER. TELL THE PERSON THAT YOU WILL CALL THEM INSTEAD.

Members of the FOP Lodge 122 will be supporting Freedom Service Dogs of America with collecting items from their wish list to be donated to their facility in Colorado.
This organization rescues dogs from shelters across the country to train them and set matches with veterans in need of service dogs. FSDA does this at no cost to the veteran.
A bin will be located in the police department lobby and any donated items are greatly appreciated.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of one of our retired members. Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Brother Robert Scholtz Jr.

The Mount Olive Township Police Department is saddened to report that retired Detective Robert E. Scholtz, Badge #034, passed away Sunday morning, October 7th. He was 59 years of age.

Detective Scholtz was a lifelong resident of Mount Olive Township and was a 1976 graduate of Mount Olive High School. That same year, he joined the Budd Lake Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. A year later, he was hired by the Mount Olive Department of Public Works. He later attended training as a Class II Special Police Officer and joined the ranks of the Mount Olive Police Department in May of 1979. On December 1, 1981 he was appointed as a full time police officer with Mount Olive. He was a graduate of the 16th Basic Police Class of the Morris County Police Academy in May of 1982.

Detective Scholtz was affectionately known by his fellow officers as “Da Scholtz” or “Scholtzy”. He served the Mount Olive Police Department in all four (4) Divisions; Patrol, Investigations, Support Services, and Communications and Records. Over the course of his thirty one (31) year career he received Lifesaving, Meritorious Service and Grand Cordon Awards. In 2004, he was the recipient of the Knights of Columbus Shield Award. Detective Scholtz was a trained Arson Investigator and subject expert on cause and origin investigations. For many years he was the Police Department Evidence Custodian. He was a trained Crime Scene Technician and recognized for his expertise on the 911 and the Criminal Justice Information Systems.

Detective Scholtz loved Mount Olive and saw himself as a steward for the community. He gave of his time and talents to family, friends and acquaintances alike. He will be sorely missed. The Mount Olive Township Police Department extends our sincere condolences to Detective Scholtz’s mother, daughter Ashley, family, friends and former colleagues.

Tricky Tray Saturday December 1, 2018 to help out our brother in red, Pat Piserchio.

Pat is a 61 year old retired career firefighter and with the Flanders Fire Department for the last 7 years. Pat has received Top Valor and Life Saving awards from organizations such as the New Jersey State FMBA, Essex County 200 Club, Morris County 200 Club, and the St. Barnabas Burn Foundation. Pat has dedicated his life to serving his community and helping others. Flanders residents may know him as the "Fire Gnome" as he has been the Elf greeting children with Santa.

Pat can use our assistance. In November 2017 he was diagnosed with aggressive stage four lung cancer which metastasized to his bones in several areas.

The Tricky Tray would directly benefit Pat and his wife, Susan, with medical and other explenses being accrued during this difficult time in their lives. Please consider attending the Tricky Tray, admission is $10.00

The Mount Olive Twp. Police, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 122 will once again be participating in the Pink Patch Project. The #PinkPatchProject began as a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs' Association and several public safety agencies in Los Angeles County and beyond. These agencies have partnered together to combat breast cancer by raising public awareness, and to raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment.

This year we have added key chains, which are available at our Communications Center for $10 each. All proceeds go towards cancer treatment/research. Last year we raised $3,500 for the Oncology Integrative Medicine inpatient program at the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center. Stop in and get your key chain today!
