Political History Lesson from the Perry Miller files:

America knew on May 9, 1974 that President Richard Nixon's would have to resign.

The (at the time) very conservative Chicago Tribune called for Nixon's resignation. Chicago Tribune Editor Clayton Kirkpatrick came down to the Tribune Tower lobby and told my father "It's about to hit the fan." My father supplied the Chicago press all their newspapers and once news broke, the networks from Cronkite to Brinkley, were headed to Chicago as it was the nations lead story and dad was fullfilling orders.

What is only sparsely known is that it wasn't the crime and cover-up that strictly influenced the publications decision. The conservative Kirkpatrick was appalled at the language Nixon used in the oval office as discovered on the tapes.

Dad learned firsthand that the editor could not comprehend a US President referring to others as "C**ksuckers" while sitting in the Oval Office. That was the final stray.

Mark my words: The Democrat National Convention this year in Chicago will feel and sound more like a 1930's political rally in Berlin, than an event to bring the various factions of the Party together.

The protests and yes, rioting outside the convention, will be the most anti-Semitic gathering in U.S. history.
