Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team

Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team Buffalo Grove is in the center of Chicago Wilderness, an area surprisingly rich in diversity and native species.

Would you like to improve our local environment and meet other people with similar interests? If so, join the Buffalo Grove Park District Environmental Action Team. We launched a floating island on Green Lake which will filter out pollutants to improve water quality and become a haven for native wetland plants and wildlife. Other ideas to improve the environment in Buffalo Grove just need your hel

The Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team, along with the Prairie Guardians, held another successful seed processing event with 40 volunteers on Sunday. BGEAT processed 69 species into 53 pounds of prairie, wetland and woodland mixes. The Prairie Guardians processed 68 species of seeds and together we shared a potluck lunch. A great event that involves people passionate about the environment. Thanks to all who participated!

The second annual Earth Day event sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Park District and the Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team was a success on a cloudy Saturday with lots of interest in the scavenger/nature hike, the monarch butterfly exhibit, native seeds, green bean plants, pine cone bird feeders, butterfly crafts and educational exhibits by students, including those in the 4C STEM club. Thanks to all who came out and who volunteered and special thanks to the BG Singers who kicked off the event with their wonderful voices!

The public is invited to join the Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team on Tuesday, March 25 at 6:30 pm at Alcott Community Center 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove, in rooms 10-11 to hear our speaker, Andrea Denshem from the Alliance for the Great Lakes. She will be talking about the future of recycling in Illinois and the policy of extended producer responsibility (which holds producers accountable for the entire lifecycle of their products, including post-consumer waste management).

We are very fortunate to have her as a speaker and let's all try to attend to hear her important message. As she writes: “We all love and depend on clean water. Unfortunately, plastic is polluting our water, across the Great Lakes.”
