Vernon Township’s Family Movie Night, which was rescheduled due to the weather has a new date! It will take place on Friday, September 4, from 7:30–10 p.m. at William E. Peterson Park (16652 N. Buffalo Grove Road, Vernon Hills). Settle in with your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a showing of Disney’s Frozen, beginning around 7:45–8 p.m. Grab some popcorn and snacks from the concession stand, and help support the Vernon Township Food Pantry by participating in the raffle, or by bringing a donation of non-perishable food items. We can’t wait to see you on September 4!

A big thank you to the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council for hosting a Culver's Donation Drive benefiting the Vernon Township Food Pantry! The fundraiser raised $473.25 to help support local residents experiencing food insecurity. We’re grateful to everyone who participated and helped to make this fundraiser a success!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Vernon Township Food Pantry table at the Village of Buffalo Grove Farmers' Market last month! Township Supervisor Tim Kobler, Clerk Fabbi Vasquez, and Township volunteers shared information about the Food Pantry and ways residents can support its mission. A special thank you to Buffalo Grove Village President Eric Smith, a longtime supporter of the Pantry, who always makes a point to visit us at the event, and Vernon Township Trustee Phil Hirsh for stopping by as well. If you would like to donate non-perishable food to the Pantry, they can be dropped of in the collection cart outside the Township office at 3050 N. Main Street, Buffalo Grove.

Save the date! Vernon Township's next Shred Day will be Monday, September 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Township Administration Building (3050 N. Main Street, Buffalo Grove). Safely dispose of sensitive documents such as old bills, medical records, canceled checks, and more. Residents can bring up to three medium-sized boxes of paper for secure shredding. Through a special agreement between Metra and Vernon Township, student parking is available in the east parking lot near the Port Clinton/Prairie Road entrance. Students must have a valid permit to park in this lot or pay the daily parking fee of $1.75. Last Saturday, Vernon Township Supervisor Tim Kobler and Township Clerk Fabbi Vasquez, along with Trustee Gowri Magati (not pictured), attended a ceremony dedicating a portion of Route 83 in honor of Beverly Sussman, former Village President of Buffalo Grove. The recognition was made possible through a resolution passed by State Representative Daniel Didech and Senator Adriane Johnson. Beverly’s husband, Marty, and members of the Sussman family, also attended.

Beginning Monday, August 10, the Vernon Township Aquatic Center will transition to its late-season schedule through Labor Day (Monday, September 7). Weekday pool hours will be 5 p.m. until dusk, while weekend and holiday hours will continue to be noon to 6 p.m. Please note: the water slide will not be available on weeknights due to staffing availability, and will be closed daily from 3 to 4 p.m. for staff meal breaks.
