The Buffalo Police Department is proud to announce that Sergeant Eric Caston has been awarded the Department’s Command Commendation in recognition of outstanding service to the community in furtherance of justice.
The Command Commendation is presented to members of the Department whose actions demonstrate noteworthy service, professionalism, and dedication to the citizens they serve. This award was submitted by Sergeant Talon Farrar, who recognized Sergeant Caston’s exceptional performance.
On March 6, 2026, Sergeant Caston demonstrated decisive action and situational awareness during an incident involving a juvenile who appeared to be in the custody of an individual not recognized as the child’s guardian and having recent mental health related issues. Relying on prior knowledge and training, Sergeant Caston immediately intervened, preventing the kidnapping and ensuring the safety of the child.
During the encounter, Sergeant Caston was met with active resistance but remained composed and maintained control of the situation. He successfully safeguarded the juvenile and managed the incident until additional officers arrived to assist.
Sergeant Caston’s professionalism, composure under pressure, and commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community showcase the highest standards of law enforcement service. His actions brought great credit upon himself, the Buffalo Police Department, and the City of Buffalo.
“Sergeant Caston’s actions during this situation demonstrate exactly the type of officers we want and have in our community. When bad situations unfold, we need officers who act without hesitation, remain in control, and prevent a dangerous situation from getting worse.” said Chief Chad Garner.
The Buffalo Police Department commends Sergeant Caston for his service and extends appreciation to Sergeant Farrar for recognizing exemplary performance within the Department.
