The Wright County Sheriff’s Office hosted an open house on June 6, 2025, welcoming community members to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office’s work and services. Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes attended the event, along with staff from the Sheriff’s Office.

It was a great opportunity to engage and connect with the public and highlight the efforts of local law enforcement. Thank you to all who attended!

This past week, Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes had the opportunity to speak to area high school students regarding the dangers and consequences of driving impaired. Buffalo, St. Michael-Albertville, and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted high schools recently hosted mock crash demonstrations aimed at educating students on the serious consequences of impaired and distracted driving.

These impactful events were made possible through the coordinated efforts and strong partnerships among multiple agencies throughout Wright County. With prom season approaching—a time often associated with increased risk-taking—students are reminded of the potentially life-altering consequences of drinking and driving, and the importance of making safe, responsible choices.

Rodney Allen Andersen appeared today before the Honorable Geoffrey Tenney in Wright County District Court on the charge of 2nd degree intentional homicide for the murder of his wife, Janet Louise Andersen, in Annandale on Thursday, September 12, 2024. At the request of Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes, bail was set in the amount of $1,000,000 with conditions or $3,000,000 without conditions. The Minnesota Supreme Court released a decision this morning affirming the convictions of Gregory Ulrich for the mass shooting attack at the Allina Clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota, on February 9, 2021, in which Ulrich murdered Lindsay Overbay and shot and injured four others, Sherry Curtis, Antonya Fransen-Pruden, Jennifer Gibson, and Tamara Schaufler.

The convictions affirmed were for 1st degree premeditated murder, four counts of attempted 1st degree murder premeditated, and for detonating explosive devices. The Minnesota Supreme Court decision ensures that Ulrich will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.

I extend my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Lindsay Overbay, the other shooting victims, and all the medical providers and patients at the clinic on February 9, 2021, who were impacted by this horrific act of violence. I thank my law enforcement partners and paramedics who entered the clinic with extreme courage to arrest Ulrich and render care to the shooting victims. Lives were saved because of the bravery of law enforcement and paramedics.

I hope the decision of the Minnesota Supreme Court following a successful jury trial brings a sense of justice and finality to all those impacted by this awful event. As a citizen of Wright County, I am proud of how our community responded to this tragic event.

Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes convened a grand jury on June 7-8 concerning the shooting death of Adrian Montano Medina that occurred in the parking lot of Dura Supreme in Howard Lake on March 20, 2023. The grand jury indicted Kevin Zelaya Asencio on 1st Degree Premeditated Murder and 2nd Degree Intentional Murder. The defendant appeared in court this afternoon at 1:30 before the Honorable Kari Willis and was arraigned on the charges in the indictment. Bail remains at $2 million with conditions or $5 million without conditions. The defendant remains in custody at the Wright County Jail.

Kevin Zelaya Asencio appeared in Wright County District Court, the Honorable Judge Elizabeth Strand presiding, this morning on the charge of 2nd degree intentional murder in connection with the murder of Adrian Montano Medina in Howard Lake, Minnesota, on March 20, 2023. At the request of Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes, Judge Strand set bail in the amount of $5,000,000 without conditions or $2,000,000 with conditions that include no contact with any family members of the deceased victim, no contact with the defendant’s wife, no use or possession of fi****ms, don’t leave the State without permission and surrender any paperwork that would allow travel out of the country. The defendant’s next court appearance is set for March 28, 2023 at 9 a.m. County Attorney Lutes will evaluate the case for presentation to a grand jury seeking an indictment of 1st degree premeditated murder in the upcoming weeks.

A message from Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes:

Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes charged Dillon Lawrence Tilbury with attempted 2nd intentional murder and 1st degree assault for the shooting incident that occurred at the compost site adjacent to Montissippi Park in Monticello on January 16, 2023. Tilbury made his initial court appearance this morning. Bail was set at $450,000 with conditions or $750,000 without conditions. Tilbury will appear next in court on January 31, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

This level of violence in our community is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I want the public to know this was not a random act of violence but rather a targeted act aimed at a specific individual. This is an ongoing investigation not allowing me to say too much but the people you associate with and the activity you engage in impact your level of safety.

I want to thank the citizens in the area who communicated with the police to help locate Tilbury. I commend the efforts of my law enforcement partners with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol who immediately tracked Tilbury to where he was hiding. The Sheriff’s Office surrounded the location to ensure the safety of the public. I want to highlight some of the tools used by the Sheriff’s Office to apprehend Tilbury. The Sheriff’s Office used a robot to open the service door to the garage in which Tilbury was hiding. The Sheriff’s Office then flew a small drone into the garage to obtain surveillance footage inside the garage. The Sheriff’s Office then deployed K9 Chase in the garage who alerted to a trunk of a vehicle in the garage where Tilbury was hiding. Tilbury surrendered once Chase aggressively barked directly at the trunk.

I will work with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office to hold Tilbury accountable for this crime.
