The article covers how Graycliff Conservancy recently donated 373 items to University at Buffalo’s Special Collections library, which makes Frank Lloyd Wright and the Martin Family even more accessible to architecture and history fans in the region.

To bring it full circle, UB generously loaned us dozens of artifacts for our “Thought-Built: The Imperial Hotel at 100” exhibit, which you can enjoy through May 12. Learn more here: https://martinhouse.org/visit/exhibition/.

Our urns have been given a dash of holiday spirit! 🎄

Believe it or not, an entire tree was needed to fill this particular urn. It has some classic Wright features like multiple geometric shapes (a circle within a square) and the overhanging top mimics the wide roof line of the Martin House behind it.

11/13/2023

This week the Martin House will welcome 22 new trees to the estate. Earlier this year, the American elm trees at the Martin House became infected with Dutch elm disease. Despite using the most disease resistant new elm varieties, the disease spread rapidly across our campus and decimated our elm trees.

Starting this week, our landscape team will be removing the diseased trees and replacing them with new kinds of shade trees that will beautify the estate for decades to come.

The new trees include the Espresso Kentucky Coffeetree, the Hardy Rubber tree, and Happidaze Sweetgum. Having a diversity of trees will better protect the Martin House’s grounds from insect and disease problems in the future.

We are deeply saddened to lose our beautiful elm trees to this disease, but are looking forward to watching this new, more diverse array of trees grow in the coming months and years.
