Professional development is essential in an industry that is constantly evolving.

Grouse Mountain's GIS Specialist, Troy Snyder, attended the annual Utah Geographic Information Council (UGIC) GIS Conference in Kanab, one of the largest GIS events in the Mountain West, and brought back valuable insights for the Grouse Mountain Environmental Consultants team.

Sessions covered topics ranging from ArcGIS Survey123 and AI applications in GIS to emerging mapping technologies and industry trends. Troy also valued the opportunity to connect with other GIS professionals and explore new tools shaping the environmental and regulatory space.

At Grouse Mountain, we believe investing in our team strengthens the solutions we provide to clients. Staying engaged with advancing technology and industry collaboration helps us continue delivering informed, efficient environmental and regulatory support across the West.

Meet Kristie, our Wildlife Department Supervisor, she's a wildlife biologist who's equally comfortable navigating ArcGIS and navigating conversations with federal agencies (a rare combo, trust us).

Kristie brings a master's degree in biology from UBC and years of field experience across diverse habitats to every project. She's the person who can spot a swift fox at dawn, manage large-scale wildlife data by afternoon, and run sage grouse density calculations before dinner.

Her specialty? Keeping complex wildlife surveys running smoothly so your project timelines stay on track.

Timing isn't flexible. Miss the breeding season window, and you're waiting another year.

Our latest blog breaks down critical survey windows for the Rocky Mountain region:
→ Sage grouse lek surveys: March-May
→ Migratory bird nesting: April-July
→ Raptor nest surveys: February-June
→ Bat acoustic surveys: May-September

Planning ahead prevents 6+ month delays and keeps federal permits on track.

Grouse Mountain volunteers hit the trail for the annual Global Big Day on a beautiful spring day.

Over 12 hours and 7 miles, the team identified:
• 67 bird species
• 1,116 total birds

Highlights included new species for our route, like the Evening Grosbeak and Dusky Grouse, along with sightings of Lazuli Bunting, Bullock’s Oriole, and MacGillivray’s Warbler.

A great day in the field doing what we love!

Reclamation isn't just about meeting regulatory requirements at the end of a project. It's about preventing erosion, reducing long-term liability, and protecting the land's ability to function for years to come.

When done poorly or left to the last minute, it creates compliance headaches, budget overruns, and lasting environmental impacts. When done right, it restores rangeland productivity, stabilizes soil, and supports wildlife habitat.

At Grouse Mountain, we approach reclamation as a science—not a checkbox. From topsoil salvage to custom seed mixes and erosion control, we help energy, mining, and infrastructure projects across Wyoming and the Mountain West stay on schedule and set up for successful site closure.

Our NEPA specialists manage Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) from scoping through final approval, coordinating with federal agencies to keep your timeline intact.

We handle:
→ Scoping and public involvement
→ Alternatives analysis
→ Impact assessment and mitigation planning
→ Agency coordination and document preparation

Missing a NEPA requirement can trigger project delays, legal challenges, and budget overruns. We prevent that.

Meet William Padilla, Wildlife Biologist at Grouse Mountain!

Based in the Santa Fe office, he conducts biological surveys, contributes to reports, and continues growing across all aspects of his field.

What he values most? The chance to do meaningful wildlife-focused work while expanding his skills and knowledge every day.

A lifelong passion for wildlife (and a love for fieldwork) led him to this career, and it still feels like an adventure. “Every day is a new challenge, and I get to see things most people never will.”

Outside of work, William enjoys hiking, camping, painting, cooking, playing bass guitar, building Lego creations, and cheering on the Raiders.
