Damaging winds, heavy rain and large hail are the main hazards. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Yesterday was International Overdose Awareness Day, and my staff was able to attend Erie County's Day of remembrance, connection, and community.

This event gave the community a chance to remember and honor every life lost to overdose, knowing that behind every loss was a real person with a story, a family, and others who loved them. Coming together reminded us that these losses are not just statistics, but lives that mattered.

It also showed strength by supporting one another and showing our commitment to treatment, recovery and to prevent these tragic deaths in the future.

Today, I stopped by the Milton J. Brounshidle American Legion Post to see the completion of renovations made possible through funds I was proud to help secure.

This building, which is owned by the Town of Tonawanda, is more than just an American Legion Post. It is an important community gathering place that hosts events throughout the year and has long been a staple of our community.

Next year will mark the building’s 100th anniversary of being in use which is a tremendous milestone that reflects its importance and lasting impact. These renovations will help ensure this building remains a strong, welcoming place for veterans and the entire community for years to come.

In this month’s Ken-Ton Bee column, I took time to highlight Dr. John Long and recognize his service to our country. Dr. Long is a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army’s First Infantry Division.

It was also an honor to attend the Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight reunion celebration, where Dr. Long and other veterans from our community were recognized for their service and sacrifice.
