Earlier today I attended the ribbon cutting of the Muffin Man Of Buffalo's new location on Transit road in Depew. Len Grusso is an incredible baker and also has such deep connections to our community the ribbon cutting was incredibly well attended. His new shop is adorned with an incredible mural painted by a young local artist, Bailey Maier, depicting both the rivalry and collaboration between the Lancaster and Depew communities. I am so grateful to be invited and I truly wish this business all the luck I can.

Good news. The Department of Homeland Security has identified a new location for their job fair. It will be held September 1 and 2 from 9-5 at the coast guard station. There are many great opportunities available, and I thank the U.S. Coast Guard in Buffalo for hosting this event.

Last night I heard the terrible news that Marilla Supervisor Skip Gingerich passed away. Skip was a tireless fighter for Marilla. There was no subject or issue he wouldn’t take on if he thought it was good for Marilla. He loved his community and the people he served, and it showed. No matter the problem, if Skip believed he could help one of his residents, he was involved and that meant so were many others. My wife and I are sad to learn of this loss and our prayers are with the Gingerich Family and the Marilla community this morning. Rest in peace, Skip

Congratulations to The 716 Dance Lab on the opening of their new location at 5287 Transit Road. The additional space provides them great opportunities to teach many more up and coming dancers. If you have children thinking about learning to dance, you should check them out. It’s a great spot!

“This afternoon County Executive Mark Poloncarz abused his office to exert influence on the convention center to cancel a previously scheduled career fair for the US Department of Homeland Security. Decades of decision making like his has left this region far behind the rest of the nation economically, and he has the audacity to think he can decide for you where you may want to work? This is wrong. Erie County is home to over 9000 federal employees, working in good paying jobs across several departments and agencies. A DHS career fair would have highlighted jobs for our citizens in the Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction, ICE, Science and Technology, Intelligence, Secret Service, Customs and Border Protection and others. It is not the job of elected officials to decide the industries the people they represent and SERVE should work. That is a major step too far. It is completely inappropriate, and shame on the Visitors Bureau for joining in on this lunacy. This region deserves good paying jobs and better representation at the top. I completely disagree with this decision and the constant creep of politicians trying to control your lives.”

I was honored to be a part of today’s ribbon cutting for the D&L Barbershop. Located on Brunswick Road in Depew, the barber shop has a rich history and is a great spot for a haircut. Be sure to check it out.

The Depew-Lancaster Boys & Girls Club is hosting a blood drive in honor of Micah, a club member who was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma and is currently undergoing treatment.

Thank you to retiring Lancaster Town Clerk Diane Terranova for her many years of service to the community. She is someone who has worked tirelessly on behalf of taxpayers; streamlining operations in the Clerk’s office, updating the town’s software systems, and receiving many awards and recognition for her accomplishments.
She is also recognized by WNY Heroes for her commitment to veterans, and her service with the Lancaster-Depew Rotary Club. Best wishes on a wonderful retirement.

Next month, free rabies vaccination clinics will be provided by Erie County at the Erie County Emergency and Training Operations Center (3359 Broadway Street, Cheektowaga) on Saturday, September 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and at the Town of Hamburg Highway Garage (2720 Lakeview Road, Hamburg) on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Don't forget to register online. The life and legacy of David Bondrow will be celebrated Saturday, August 15 at 11am. David was a wonderful leader, dedicated to the success of the Lancaster Opera House.

The celebration of his life begins with a special designation of the area outside the Opera House, which will be known as David Bondrow Square.

Following that, participants can gather inside to further recognize all David did for the Opera House. That will include food, cash bar, raffles, a memorial presentation and other activities.

A Legacy Fund has also been established, with proceeds supporting community-oriented aspects of the organization, which includes a future community center on West Main Street.

The community misses David. We are grateful for his many gifts to the Lancaster Opera House and the wider Lancaster community.
