Lancaster has been growing every year and I have been lucky enough to be the legislator during much of that growth. There are a lot of new businesses coming in that I have been able to welcome but sometimes you have to say goodbye. Dark Forest Chocolate Makers has been a staple of the Lancaster West Main Street and it was run by a phenomenal couple. JoAnne and Dan Sundell made the highest quality chocolates, and they made them from scratch refusing to buy beans that were harvested using child labor. They are great people, they made great chocolate, they will be missed, but we wish them well on their retirement.

The Erie County Volunteer Firemen's Assocationn held its scholarship award ceremony last night and I am so proud of all of the awardees. I was able to give proclamations to the two future leaders in my district but all the awardees deserve recognition. These young men and women are the future of public service but they have already done more than enough to earn this recognition. I look forward to seeing what their future holds.

What a treat! I was invited on board of the “Big Boy”, as it made a stop in Erie County on its journey from Sacramento to Philadelphia. We were able to get a tour of the largest steam locomotive of all time which culminated in Franklin Roosevelt’s private carriage, the “Marco Polo” which has been meticulously and beautifully maintained. I want to thank Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific Railroad for the invitation and wish you luck on the last legs of your journey.
