I’m sorry to say that Erie County residents lost today. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle approved a measure that would take away the public’s input regarding sales tax. This measure silences the voices of voters in 33 municipalities in Erie County.
The outcome from negotiations with sales tax extension has been a benefit to all county residents; a property tax levy decrease, savings on home heating costs in winter, less borrowing. The County Executive doesn’t want to negotiate with us any longer. He’s pushing a law that would take away the voice of the people on sales tax. For someone who supposedly advocates for increased voter rights, he wants to take away some of yours. It’s irresponsible and it’s wrong.
A Local Law being pushed by the other side of the aisle silences the voices of hundreds of thousands of Erie County residents. They don’t want you to have a say when it comes to the sales tax. They even want to do away with a referendum where the public could decide on extending, or even increasing the sales tax. They’re rushing this through with the hope no one notices. Let them know how your opposition.
We finally had a Government Affairs committee meeting and discussion on the migrant crisis. 3 bus loads of asylum seekers have now made their way here from NYC, staying in a hotel in my district. It is important to have transparency and answers.
A once in a generation vote today in the Erie County Legislature. We voted unanimously to approve the Buffalo Bills new stadium agreement, keeping the team here and respecting County taxpayers.
Happy Birthday Russ Salvatore!
I’m happy to say we passed a measure in the Erie County Legislature today that extends limits on taxing gasoline and diesel fuel sales. This exempts any Erie County gas tax over $2.00 per gallon. Implementation would begin in June and extend to the end of the year. In these challenging economic times, where everyone pays more for groceries, goods and services-every little bit helps. Spoke about it after with WKBW-Channel 7 and WBEN.
I felt so good about the Buffalo Bills chances this year that I bought Super Bowl tickets the third week of the season. Instead I will be ordering pizza and watching the game from my couch with family.
I wish I could be rooting for the Bills in tonight’s big game…but since we can’t…who will you be rooting for?

Incredibly proud of my niece Francesca Muscarella who sang the national anthem at last night’s Sabres season home opener!
She did an outstanding job and kicked off what turned out to be a great game!
Excited to meet Bar Rescue’s Jon Taffer and proclaim Wednesday, July 28th 2021 Jon Taffer Day in Erie County!
Jon made a special trip to Tops Friendly Markets in Depew to meet fans and promote his new line of cocktail mixers, Taffer’s mixologist. Good news- he didn’t “shut it down!” 😉
Thanks to Jon and the team at Tops who put together a great event today! Here’s a quick clip of the presentation:
