How to Get Naloxone:
Check with your local pharmacy about obtaining a naloxone kit. All New York pharmacies may dispense naloxone through a standing order (non-patient specific prescription) issued by New York State DOH.

Participants of a naloxone rescue training session, on-line or in-person, will receive a naloxone kit and a certificate of completion. If you have an expired naloxone kit you can email [email protected] and they will send out a new kit.

Calling all campers! Have you registered for CPP yet? We hope to see you there! 🥰🥳

The Prevention Council is excited to partner with Camp Peaceprints (CPP) this summer! Come join us July 17-28 for some wellness and fun! A Message From Camp PeacePrints:

"Camp Peaceprints is a two-week summer camp designed to introduce 8–13-year-old youth to social justice, while providing them with peaceful conflict resolution skills and exposure to a broader community. CPP is a collaboration between the SSJ Sister Karen Klimczak Center for Nonviolence, the WNY Peace Center and the Prevention Council of Erie County.

Our 2023 theme is “Healthy Lives Matter.” We will explore what personal and community health is and how to maintain it. We will consider fundamental components of health: fresh air, clean water, sunlight, mindfulness/meditation or connecting to a higher power, sleep, exercise, whole foods, and rest.

We will learn how a healthy environment benefits us, other living creatures, and the earth. We will explore justice issues around health equity that various communities face and why impoverished communities face major health challenges.

Campers will learn what resources people need in order to have a healthy community. They will understand that their own physical, emotional, intellectual, social, environmental, spiritual, financial and occupational health matters in creating a healthy community.

You can learn more about Camp Peaceprints and register campers at http://www.sisterkarencenter.org/camp-peaceprints.

Camp Peaceprints 2023 promises to be a transformative and FUN experience for all who participate! Hope to see you there!

"Intoxicating cannabis products, including ma*****na, can have a major impact on safety at work and have been proven to slow reaction time, impact memory and impair skills essential to driving. State legalization of the drug creates new challenges for employers."

Check out our art!!! Our Art Director, "Jazzy Jan" encouraged our Campers to express about themselves and their concerns through art. We are thankful for her, “Joyful Jamie" and “Serendipitous Sean” from The Prevention Council of Erie County , one of our collaborators for Camp Peaceprints.
CONGRATULATIONS Sally Yageric from The Prevention Council of Erie County 2021 Friend of Prevention!
"Sally has partnered with WNY United for many years to bring information and implement strategies to help young people in WNY communities avoid the problems that come from misusing alcohol and other drugs. She is currently working with several coalitions to help them better inform local governments about the impact the recent legalization of ma*****na will have on our youth and community resources. Over 20 years ago Sally and Karen Smith from WNY United created the Parent Forums to be hosted by our local schools to inform parents about how using alcohol, to***co, ma*****na and other substances will affect their children, impact their futures and put families at risk. In addition, she has been supportive of more than one coalition in their application for Drug-Free Communities funding. Sally is more than deserving of this award. She has been in the Prevention Field for as long as I can remember. Her wealth of knowledge, her hard work ethic and her ability to talk to anyone and educate them at the same time are traits that can't go unnoticed. Thank you Sally!" - Sue Boyle

Prevention begins and ends with parenting. Children of parents who engaged in parenting behaviors and practices generally recognized as supporting their healthy development rarely hurt themselves and others. The Centers for Disease Control, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the National Institute of Mental Health should be working furiously to find ways to improve the overall quality of parenting in the U.S. Perhaps parenting education campaigns akin to the smoking and seatbelts campaigns of the past. Visit www.advancingparenting.org. In our own unique way we have adopted this approach to primary prevention. Please share. 🙂
