At today's University Express Tailgate event, we enjoyed delicious game-day favorites including red pepper dip, tzatziki, and pineapple salsa! The fun continued with a Buffalo Bills Bracelet craft, where everyone showed off their team spirit while creating Bills-inspired bracelets.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and Go Bills!

Today, Erie County Historian Doug Kohler led a University Express tour of the new hands-on canal experience in the Longshed at Canalside.

The Erie Canal opened over 200 years ago! The 363 mile long canal connected the Great Lakes to the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean. The Canal made Buffalo the Queen City of the Lakes as grain flowed east and immigrants moved west along the canalway.

This morning, our University Express students enjoyed a special visit to VFW Post 1419 in Hamburg! 🇺🇸

Thank you to the amazing Hamburg Middle School 7th graders who guided our older adults on a tour of the Memorial Park and Museum. It was a wonderful opportunity for generations to come together, share in local history, and learn from one another.

Thank you to the students and VFW Post 1419 for making this special experience possible!

Erie County RSVP is trying something new! We want to make it easy for volunteers to reach us with questions or issues and get timely, efficient support, while also making time to visit and connect with the partner stations.

We have created RSVP Office Hours, where we will schedule designated times at our stations to be available for any volunteer who would like to stop in.

These office hours will give all of us an opportunity to learn more about the different stations while also providing dedicated one-on-one time with volunteers who need help finding placements, have questions, or need assistance navigating any part of our program. Our goal is to make sure volunteers feel supported, informed, and comfortable reaching out whenever they need help.

Our first Office Hours will be held at the Orchard Park Senior Center on Wednesday, October 14! There is no registration. Feel free to pop in at your convenience during this time if you are interested.

It was beautiful morning for a guided birdwatching walk at beautiful Knox Farm State Park! Thank you to our friends from New York State Parks who led our University Express students to explore the park's scenic fields and woodlands and learn to identify birds by sight, sound, and habitat.

Led by Environmental Educator Michael Adriaansen, this outdoor program gave participants the chance to see bobolinks, eastern meadowlarks, and other grassland birds.

We officially kicked off the University Express Fall 2026 Semester at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, with a special presentation by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and City of Buffalo Historian Lindsey Lauren Visser!

"Rumble 2" was a debate over who has the stronger legacy: President Grover Cleveland or his wife, First Lady Frances Folsom Cleveland? The debate captivated an enthusiastic audience of older adults from across Erie County, and was a fantastic way to kick off our semester.
