Heavy rain looks to result in 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall across most of central and southeast IL today, with amounts locally exceeding 3 inches. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from around 2 to 10 PM today, especially near and south of I-72. Flooding as well as locally damaging wind are the main threats with thunderstorms, although a few tornadoes may develop as well, with a few instances of hail up to around 1 inch diameter.

More severe weather coming in the next 24-48 hours, please remember to have multiple ways to get weather updates.

REMINDER!!! The siren is called an outdoor warning siren for severe weather. That means all severe weather and not just tornados, it is designed to let the public outside know there is severe weather in the area and to get inside. They are NOT designed to be heard in doors. So if you hear the siren and are outside please find your way inside and seek shelter. If you are inside be sure as we said earlier to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts!

Thanks,
Fire Chief, J. Clampet
