Buffalo Special Officers pay for their own training and equipment and work at the pleasure and direction of the Buffalo Police Commissioner. The Buffalo City Charter, in 1927, recognized the Buffalo Special Police Officers. Since that time, this volunteer group of concerned citizens has dedicated their own time and resources to helping keep Buffalo a safe place.

Mission: • To promote good-will among the membership. • To serve as a means of exchanging information among member police associations on matters of common interest. • To promote a higher standard among the membership, through a commitment to development in the areas of special police and security training, and safe gun handling for private citizens. • To give aid and assistance to police officers and police associations wherever possible.

For: Entry Level Buffalo Special Police Officer
The Buffalo Special Police will be accepting 60-90 new officers into its organization over the next two years. The full announcement can be viewed on www.buffalospecialpolice.org. The Buffalo Special Police is an all-volunteer force serving the City of Buffalo, New York since 1927.

Proudly serving since 1927, The Buffalo Special Police are academy trained officers that have received more than 120 hours of City of Buffalo Mandated training including the use of firearms, approved and certified through Municipal Police Training Council and is consistent with current Law Enforcement standards through the Peace Officer Training Academy. The BSP provides services in preserving peace in utilizing patrol cars, foot patrols and bikes.
