Don't let the BPO being "dark" this weekend get you down. Come to the Burchfield-Penney Art Center for five (5) world premiers of new art songs performed by the Hayley-Laufer Duo. This is NOT your grandfather's voice and piano recital.

We are pleased to invite you to join Duo Axis on Monday, November 19 in Baird Hall at 7:30 pm for the culminating event of our Creative Arts Initiative Residency: Woven Tide, a recital of new and recent works featuring music by David Felder, Victoria Cheah, Katherine Balch and Tonia Ko, and world premieres by Anthony Vine and Zach Sheets. An ebb and flow of breath unites the six works in a gentle unfolding, woven together into an-evening length recital that is framed by lighting and motion through space.

Sheets and Wu will also present a talk on their work at 1:30 pm in Baird 227 before Monday evening's concert. They will speak on their exploration of duo playing, adopting various identities and tasks as performers, occupying shared mental and physical space, and fostering a reciprocally beneficial spirit of innovation.

Both events are free and open to the public. The concert program runs continuously without an intermission, with a duration of approximately 80 minutes.

As Duo Axis, flutist Zach Sheets and pianist Wei-Han Wu present vibrant performances that feature traditional classical music and new, experimental works in equal measure. Their well-rounded experiences as chamber musicians, soloists, orchestral players, and arts administrators inform their multi-dimensional art-making and shape their exploration of new dialogues with audiences. They have performed recitals throughout the US, including commissioned projects and concert tours supported by New Music USA, EQ Concerts, the nth degree chamber series, Avaloch Farm Music Institute, and more.
