We are a professional learning community. Our focus on learning is driven by research, data and collaborative reflection to increase student achievement.

We are South Buffalo Charter School . South Buffalo Charter School was established in 1999 and formally granted a five year charter by State University of New York Board of Regents in the fall of 2000. South Buffalo Charter School was the second charter school to open in the greater Buffalo region. In May of 2005 the school was re-chartered for another five years. The school opened its doors in th

e former Buffalo Public School No. 29 with an enrollment of 248 students in grades kindergarten through grade four. In 2004 the building was purchased from the City of Buffalo and so began our expansion to include grades five through eight. Currently the enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year is 660 students in grades kindergarten through grade eight. The school has a dedicated and qualified teaching staff of over 65 teachers and teacher assistants as well as a seasoned administration and support staff that will foster quality education and socialization for our students. Thank you to H.A.N.G. Inc who donated backpacks stuffed with supplies to support our students as we return to school! This effort was a collaboration between H.A.N.G. Inc and the Wende Correctional Facility as apart of their give back to the community initiative.

H.A.N.G. Inc is collaborating with SBCS throughout the school year to bring the EmpowerU program to our 7th graders during health classes. EmpowerU is a program that focuses on resilience, goal setting, healthy relationships, and personal growth.

We are excited to welcome students back today for the first day of school! Today is a full day of classes.

Teachers spent the last week back at school attending workshops and professional development, preparing for the school year, and setting up their classrooms!

📢 Registration is now OPEN for the after school program offered through the Boys and Girls Club for the 26-27 school year. This program is available to SBCS students for free.

Mark your calendars! The first day of school for students is on September 2nd! We’ve heard there are some questions about the schedule for that day.

It will be a FULL day of classes with the normal arrival and dismissal times of 8 am and 3 pm.
