Tell state leaders to help bring the Buffalo Central Terminal back to life!

New York State is considering a powerful new preservation tool that could directly impact the future of the Central Terminal and other long-vacant historic landmarks across the state.

Legislation A.10366 / S.05021A, sponsored by Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter - 128th District and Senator April N.M. Baskin, would create the “White Elephant” Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit — providing up to $15 million in state tax credits for major historic rehabilitation projects that have sat vacant for years.

For a place like the Central Terminal, where the scale of restoration matches the scale of opportunity, this legislation could help unlock the financing needed to transform this iconic landmark into a vibrant community asset once again.

Now is the time to speak up.

If you believe in the future of the Central Terminal, please send a brief note of support to state leaders and let them know Buffalo supports bringing this landmark back to life at [email protected] and/or [email protected].

Please act now and help support the future of the Buffalo Central Terminal!

Some photos don’t just document history—they help rebuild it.

These images from the 1970s were taken by Steve Mangione while he was a senior at RIT, working on his thesis, “Train Stations of Western NY.” Using a 4x5 view camera and tripod, he captured the Central Terminal during a period when few other visual records exist.

Steve shared these photos with us in 2023 while we were preparing the Historic Structures Report. We met at the Central Terminal, where he walked us through printed copies and reflected on his experience photographing the building decades earlier.

His work now helps fill an important visual gap in the Terminal’s story—and can be explored further in the Historic Structures Report.

Tom Luby gave 18 years to the Central Terminal. Week by week, Saturday by Saturday, Tom showed up, did the work, and cared for this special place in the ways that mattered.

That kind of consistency is what keeps a building like this going.

On May 16th from 10am to 1pm, we’re coming together for a Spring Clean Up in honor of Tom Luby. We hope you’ll join us to honor Tom by caring for the grounds he gave so much time to.

If you can’t make it, you can still honor Tom’s legacy by making a sustaining gift of $18 a month—one dollar for each year of dedication—to sustain year-round care for the Central Terminal.

Tonight, we join our neighbors in remembering three extraordinary community leaders whose work helped shape the Broadway–Fillmore and East Side neighborhoods.

A new mural will be unveiled in honor of Robert J. Sienkiewicz, Greg Olma, and Yuri Hreshchyshyn—leaders in housing, civic engagement, and cultural preservation whose impact continues to be felt across the community.

Yuri held a special connection to the Buffalo Central Terminal as a former board member. His passion for urban forestry has shaped Broadway-Fillmore and the green space at the Terminal, where he played a key role in planting nearly all of the trees on the grounds.

Though these leaders passed within a year of one another, their legacy lives on in the places, people, and progress they helped guide.

We hope to see you tonight for this meaningful tribute--6pm at Eugene V. Debs Hall (483 Peckham Street)!

Three community leaders who made a strong positive impact on the Broadway Fillmore neighborhood are being recognized at a mural unveiling on Thursday, April 30 (6:00 p.m.) at Eugene V. Debs Hall, 483 Peckham Street. Art Resource – the organization helping to drive the effort – is set to unveil t...

Every Saturday, for 18 years, Tom Luby showed up. Rain or shine.

He swept floors, tended the grounds, made repairs, and quietly cared for the Central Terminal like it was home. Because to him, it was.

"He may not have had much, but he gave what mattered most: himself,” his family says.

This spring, you can show up, too.

Give $18 a month in Tom’s honor—one dollar for each year he dedicated to this place we love.

Your steady support helps care for the Central Terminal year-round, keeping it standing, welcoming, and vibrant for generations to come—just as Tom did.
