Unlawful Driving in Parkside
Neighbors, this video was shot by a resident of Greenfield Street last week as he waited for the school bus with his young children. Unfortunately, we all know that this reckless and unlawful behavior from motorists happens far too often as our neighborhood streets are used as commuter cut-throughs. If there is speeding or disregard for traffic safety occurring on your street, please consider taking a quick video with your smartphone and sending it to us at [email protected]. These videos do help us to show that traffic is far too high in our neighborhood, and will help us to advocate for increased enforcement and safety upgrades.
The Parkside Community Association (PCA), a 501c3 not-for-profit, is the largest membership-based community association in the City of Buffalo. Founded in 1963 to fight then-prevalent racist tactics of redlining and blockbusting, it has over the years successfully implemented programs that have contributed to the security and stability of the neighborhood. The PCA prides itself on the economic and ethnic diversity of the residents.
The PCA continually meets the challenges an older urban neighborhood presents. Some of the routine challenges include absentee landlords, zoning and code issues, infrastructure deterioration and cutbacks in city services. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is elected annually by a neighborhood membership of individuals, families, and business owners. Volunteers are the backbone of the organization. Eight or more standing and ad-hoc committees comprised of neighborhood volunteers regularly contribute an average 130 volunteer hours per month.
The PCA provides a number of regular services to the neighborhood. The association runs a summer arts program for children; publishes a neighborhood newsletter containing crime alerts, and other important public notices as necessary; provides information, referral and crime prevention services for neighborhood residents; assists block clubs; holds community meetings; and advocates for the betterment of our community. The PCA also helped to restore two vacant buildings along the major commercial boundaries and assisted some homeowners with property improvements through low-interest loans.
The PCA holds several special events that are open to the public. Most of these events are fundraisers with the added goal of bringing people into Parkside to see what an urban neighborhood has to offer.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Parkside Community Association is to advocate, communicate and act on behalf of the Parkside neighborhood to preserve and enhance the quality of life.
Vision Statement
The PCA serves as the voice of a diverse community and provides leadership to promote a safe, vibrant and historic neighborhood. By communicating residential concerns and encouraging business development, the PCA fosters revitalization, beautification and sustainability
At today’s legislative session, the Erie County Legislature voted to approve the amended 2023 Erie County Budget. Important elements of the budget include a reduction in the property tax rate, increases in funding for neighborhood development & cultural agencies, and the retirement of more than $45 Million in Public Debt.
The budget that we passed today does exactly what the public expects. It funds the organizations and programs that improve our quality of life, and keeps taxes low. Spending more money on infrastructure, community groups, and neighborhood development, all while retiring over $45 million in public debt proves that this budget is working for residents.
I also secured funding for a number of community organizations in the Town of Tonawanda, North Buffalo and the City of Tonawanda:
City of Tonawanda Senior Citizens Center - $5,000
Tonawanda-Kenmore Historical Society - $10,000
Historical Society of the Tonawandas - $10,000
Grand Island Police Department - $25,000
COT Neighbors United - $5,000
Town of Tonawanda Police Department - $20,000
Town of Tonawanda Football Association Inc. - $10,000
City of Tonawanda Fire Department - $20,000
Buffalo North Young Life - $10,000
Hertel Business Association - $10,000
Parkside Community Association - $5,000
North Park Little League - $5,000
Ken-Ton Closet - $10,000
Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels - $5,000
I look forward to continuing to advocate for the residents of District 4 and Erie County.

I spent about two hours today picking up trash on the block caps of Wallace to Parkside, both sides. Several people said “Thank you!” I’m not looking for attention, just the idea that it may inspire others to do this without a group or being asked. Im also hoping that those that saw me in the residence and businesses will, perhaps be inspired to pick up a piece of garbage when they see it.
I got one of these online ($11.00) and it works great! 😂
