Public Statement: Workers World Party - Buffalo 5.24.2026
Workers World Party - Buffalo has learned that Buffalo police have shot another of our Black siblings on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026. Local news coverage describes the person in question as having been in the middle of a mental health emergency. WWP-Buffalo condemns this violent act and all the systemic racism and ableism leading up to it.
Our Black, Brown, and Indigenous siblings have faced the colonial (and later, imperial) violence of the founders of this settler-state since before its founding. This country was built on land stolen from our Indigenous siblings and with labor stolen from our Afro-descended siblings.
Make no mistake, the current order of police and federal agents (e.g. ICE, Border Patrol, FBI, DEA, etc) serve at the behest of the capitalist ruling class: the big landlords, bosses, bureaucrats, and stock brokers. And these systems here are descended from "slave catchers", strike breakers, and colonial militias. Every act of white supremacy, cis-hetero-patriarchy, ableism, or other facet of oppression is in service of the ruling class to keep us -- the workers -- "in line".
Furthermore, we live in a country with the largest prison population and where a disproportionate percentage of those incarcerated are working-class People of Color. Due to the 13th Amendment, a significant number of our incarcerated siblings are held for petty reasons and forced to labor for pennies a day -- if they are paid at all. This generates billions in wealth for the capitalist ruling class.
We call for JUSTICE for all the workers and oppressed, but on this day especially for our Black and Latine siblings who are treated as "subhuman" by this rotten system. We call for the abolition of the system of policing and other forms of state, local, and federal terrorism against our nationally oppressed siblings. We call for the expansion of health services of every type -- especially health services which are sensitive to and respectful of many different demographics of people. Finally, we call for an end to this capitalist, imperialist, settler-colony, and for the building of socialism -- which necessarily -- includes reparations to our nationally oppressed siblings.
