WAITING CHILD!!! MEET MIA!!! "My name is Mia and I am 15 years old. I like to go swimming, play football and listen to music (especially Justin Beiber). One thing I like about myself is that I am kind and I like to help other people and animals. I would love to be a veterinarian when I grow up because I love dogs. I do very well in school and this semester I was awarded the leadership award and made the high honor roll. Sometimes when I am upset, I will shut down and may need a little time before I am ready to talk. I would like to have a family that has patience to understand how I cope with my emotions. I will eventually open up and tell you how I am feeling, just give me some time. I do not mind doing chores -except sweeping is not my favorite. When I turn 16, I can’t wait to have a job and start saving my money. I can do my own laundry and cook my own dinner, but would love to have a family that I could cook and eat dinner with every night. I would also like a family that would like to spend time with me to do fun things like video games, going outdoors, or just watch a movie. I have been let down by a lot of adults in my life and my only wish for a family is that they are kind and will give me a chance despite my past."

WAITING CHILD!!! Ronnell is a 16-year old boy who describes himself as “funny, silly, and approachable”. He is also very resilient and very outgoing and friendly. He enjoys trying new things and having new experiences. He has a wide variety of interests, including:
- Sports - Football, Basketball, Lacrosse, Karate, Boxing, BMX
- Fashion, Sneakers, Cosmetology,
- Music
- Gaming and Programming
- Pets – Dogs and Ferrets
- Construction and building things
Ronnell’s goals are to find a “forever family” and get out of the foster care system. His ideal family would be an African-American family that includes a mother, father, and dogs. He would prefer to live in a suburban setting, and would like to be the youngest child in the home. He would also prefer to have his own room. His adoptive family would likely need ongoing support to ensure a successful transition from foster care and to continue to process his past in a healthy way. We wanted a baby girl. We told our agency to only call us for girls 0-1. We had already adopted 3 boys. We had no daughters. I wanted to walk a daughter down the aisle at her wedding. I wanted to go to a Father/Daughter dance. I wanted to experience all the good that comes with being a dad to a girl.

But I needed something else. I needed HIM. He is not a baby girl. Instead he was an almost 16 year old young man. He needed a Dad. He needed a listening ear. He needed a constant in his chaos. He needed a family. At that point, I knew it wasn’t about age or gender. It was about a kid needing a family. We knew we were his family.

I’m not sure who adopted who this week? Did we adopt him? Or did he adopt us? I don’t think that really matters. What I do know is that we are now a legal family, and never again will I put our future inside of a checkbox. It’s okay to know your limits. But when you close doors that are trying to open, out of fear, you could be missing out of a family that YOU need. I needed this son.

Tomorrow from 10-1. All are welcome! 🎃

Are you ready for adorableness overload? Meet BRAYLYNN! This little guy asks his team every day if a family has been found for him yet, reinforcing the importance of urgency in finding his forever home. Braylynn is a 7 year-old African American child who is currently in the first grade. Some of his favorite things are Spiderman, superheroes, playing outside, basketball, and sports. Braylynn does well in group settings and loves to learn and make new friends. He is afraid of the dark and does not like spiders. Braylynn has two siblings, a brother and sister, that he visits with. Braylynn flourishes with love and attention and would benefit from a safe, active, structured family where he is either the youngest or the only child in the family.
