Value Platform 2014

Clubs
• Implement mobile payment through a service like Square to allow clubs to accept credit cards for events and fundraisers
• Work with the SA Finance Committee to establish and publish well defined guidelines during the fall semester so that clubs know what is necessary to earn a budget increase
• Standardized online track sheets & van rentals using forms on UB Linked

Provide transportation to Enterprise for those who do not have their own vehicle to relieve the burden of the rental process
• Temporary club council & council coordinator to better serve temporary clubs
• Implement an entire fundraising plan to better assist the clubs
o Hire a fundraising coordinator to work specifically to help the clubs raise money
o Eliminate the fundraising event requirement to allow clubs to raise 50% of their budgets however they please
o Provide SA resources for clubs to rent/borrow for fundraising programs including a photo booth, popcorn machine, cotton candy machine, prize wheel, karaoke machine and a dunk tank
• Offer club members reimbursements on expenditures so that club members are not spending their own money on things that the club budget should be funding
• Provide gas cards so that students do not have to pay out of pocket to fill up the Enterprise vans
• Create SA Tutorials and post them on the SA Website to help club members understand the process involved with things like purchase orders, the SBI Ticket Office, club requirements and room reservation.
• Offer the International Orientation a full SA club fair so that the international student population gets to be introduced to the diverse clubs at UB
• Have the SA graphic artists create flyer templates for clubs to use to make it easier for clubs to promote their events
• When a student wants to sign up for a club, we will have the SA Office Personnel add them directly to the listserv so that clubs don’t have do input the data and so that the student know they have been added
• Also have the Office Personnel input new listserv data after summer orientation so that club secretaries are not burdened with data entry
• Implement a question of the week program that would ask students to, visit the SA Office (350SU), answer a question about their UB experience and gain entry into weekly raffles - the goal would be to make 350SU a more inviting place

Administration
• Increase efficiency with fewer staff members
• At the start of each week, we would post the SA E-Board's schedule so that the officers are easily accessible
• Host coordinated office hours during which at least two E-Board members would be available
• Easily accessible staff office hours so that clubs can depend on the staff to be available
• Ensure that the SA staff is more informed about SA and University policy so that they can better answer student questions
• Reduce e-board pay to free up additional funding for clubs and events
• Bring back book exchange to help save students money
• Hold staff training on campus to save money & increase efficiency
• Open new office on South Campus to extend the reach of SA services

Entertainment
• Expand Party at the Point and look for opportunities to implement similar events
• Implement genre polling for Fall and Spring Fest
• Bring back film series rewards program to offer great prizes for frequent attendees
• Distribute event tickets in the Student Union and on South Campus to offer more students the opportunity to attend SA events
• More students tickets for Fest so that students do not miss out on a show that their fees have funded

Partnerships/Advocacy
• Increase the number of Campus Cash vendors by working with the Faculty Student Association (FSA) Board of Directors
• Advocate for longer weekend and summer hours for the fitness center in Alumni Arena
• Collaborate with Parking and Transportation to add a stop in the Target Plaza for the Mall & Market Bus
• Work with campus dining to add healthy eating options
• Continue the Airport Shuttle for breaks
• Arrange for student Taxi discounts
• Advocate for more “Cybrary style” charging stations

The SA Vice-President is charged with working collaboratively with over 130 clubs. It is therefore very important that the Vice-President is someone who is passionate about the clubs. Evan Chen is just the man for the job; he is already actively participating in over 20 different clubs and organizations. If elected, he would continue his work on a larger scale.

Club Treasurers work exceptionally hard to ensure their budgets are in order and they need an SA Treasurer who will work just as hard for them. Sade Cadle is the current Treasurer for the Black Student Union (BSU); she understands the clubs’ frustrations with SA Finance. She would provide additional support to the clubs and remain consistently accessible to ensure timelier processing.

Value Added: We are looking to figure out ways that UB can better promote environmental sustainability. One suggestion we received was about bicycles on-campus and winter storage. We would like to meet with Campus Living & CDS to see if a free winter storage facility could be arranged for those with bikes on-campus. If you have any other suggestions feel free to share!

Collin Olander represents the university academically and athletically. As a participant in national level math competitions, Collin showcases the applied math program. Value Added: During the course of the campaign, students have asked how can we improve the SA hiring process. Beyond ensuring that all SA positions are very well advertised, we would also like to host open informations sessions so that students can ask questions to better understand the different roles.
