A Fire Restriction for Johnson County will go into effect Saturday March 7, 2026 at 12:00 AM (midnight).

These restrictions are defined in the attached Resolution 710. Residents are asked to review the resolution and follow all guidelines to help reduce wildfire risk in our community.

The BPD is grateful to share that Officer Thomas has been released from the hospital and is now home, where he will continue his recovery and rest.

We deeply appreciate the support of our community over the past two days, as well as the outpouring of care shown to the Thomas family.

We recognize that this incident has affected many beyond our organization, and we continue to keep all those impacted in our thoughts.

The Buffalo Police Department would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our community and our fellow agencies for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received today.

Officer Thomas remains under the care of hospital staff and is being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Your kind words, prayers, and messages of encouragement have been shared with Officer Thomas and his family and are deeply appreciated.

We recognize that this accident has forever changed the lives of the families of both drivers, and our hearts go out to everyone involved. We ask for your continued prayers for all individuals affected by this tragic incident.

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, a BPD officer was involved in a head-on collision along Highway 59 while returning to the academy in Douglas. The officer is currently in Casper receiving medical care.

Out of respect for the officer and their family, the officer’s identity is not being released at this time.
