Erie County: 136 residents have completed quarantine process

Yesterday, our Caucus heard from Dr. Gale Burstein from Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) regarding the COVID-19 health risk to our community. While we currently have no confirmed cases, we advise following the guidelines established and publicized yesterday by County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

They include:
- practicing social distancing
- limiting large public gatherings
- staying home when you feel ill
- reporting suspicious symptoms to a medical professional

Officials say there are 62 residents who are now in quarantine in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Under Chairman Savage's leadership last year, the legislature passed several major pieces of legislation, including a ban on conversion therapy for minors, a tough new ethics bill and one of the strongest housing bills in the nation.

The Health & Human Services Committee heard from Stephen Giroux, pharmacist and owner of Transit Hill Pharmacy, Zoe Kaminski of Depew High School & Tobacco-Free Western New York, and Drs. Mark Travers & Maansi Bansal-Travers or Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in support of a proposed Local Law entitled "The Public Health Act of 2018" that would prohibit the sale of tobacco products in healthcare and pharmacy facilities, prohibit smoking at bus stops, and make smoking in a vehicle with children present illegal. Majority Leader County Legislator April Baskin spoke at a panel discussion last night in Williamsville.

Last night, Legislator Baskin was part of a discussion panel hosted by the WNY Area Labor Federation,AFL-CIO entitled "Intolerance & Hate: Current Threats and Their Roots".
The goal of this program was to address noted instances of bigotry and hatred but also to create actionable steps for combating these dangers in our communities. The culturally and ethnically diverse panel had a meaningful discussion on both national and local issues.

The Legislature regularly meets on two Thursdays every month except the summer, and committees also regularly meet twice a month, more frequently when required.
