Operating as usual
It’s National Black Cat Day! You should celebrate by adopting one!
Panther - 2 year old short haired female @ the Shelter
Peace - 4 year old long haired male (declawed) @ the shelter
Lila - 9 month old short haired female @ PetSmart on Elmwood Ave
See that glint of mischief in Riley’s eye? She needs a home that will appreciate a wild woman with a BIG personality, lots of shenanigans and a few quirks. We promise she will entertain you, but would prefer to be your only source of entertainment (no little kids or other pets.) she’s about two years old and a beautiful blue-grey color. We know the perfect home is out there for Riley, and we know she’s very tired of being cooped up in a cage, so her personality may mellow once she gets into a home. You can meet her at at PetSmart on Elmwood Ave in North Buffalo.
Reasons why Pumpkin Spice the cat is better than a pumpkin spice latte:
1. No calories
2. Cat purrs are scientifically proven to be relaxing, caffeine is not
3. Rescuing animals is trendier than PSLs in Adopt a Shelter Pet Month
4. Pumpkin Spice the cat is colorful and gorgeous, Pumpkin Spice lattes are just boring brown
Contact her foster mom for more reasons. This teen mom is ready for a forever home. [email protected]
Norm! He’s looking for a bar stool at a place where everybody knows his name! (Are our followers old enough to remember “Cheers!”?)
Norm is 4, good natured, pleasantly plump, and very handsome. He is FIV+, but we can fill you in on how that’s not a very big deal. He’s waiting for you to take away all his worries at Pet Supplies Plus on Delaware Ave in North Buffalo.
8 week old sisters Hocus and Pocus are ready to put an adoption spell on you! These friendly girls are at the shelter and can be adopted by appointment.
Weekly Furtastic Feature post alert!! This week we would like to highlight a few of our wonderful adoptable animals who haven’t yet found their forever homes.
Dominic is a meatball, a goofball, and a ball of energy...for about 20 minutes then he is actually kind of lazy! He’s been with us quite a while, due to no fault of his own.
Wonder is a senior lady, sweet as pie, who shouldn’t spend another minute in a shelter. Don’t be afraid to consider adopting an older animal, they still have so much love to give ❤️
Norman is a bigger kitty, around 4 years old, and FIV+. His FIV status might deter some, but FIV cats are absolutely capable of living normal, long lives with their human and animal companions. He’s currently living off site at Pet Supplies Plus on Delaware Ave.
Flora is a lovely adult pup who came to us as a stray. She’s about 5 or 6, fairly laid back, but has some spunk in her still that will keep you laughing at her goofy antics.
The virtual Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon runs through the rest of October, please visit Furtastic.us for more info!
Sweet Bonnie is a beautiful marbled tabby with a bob tail. She’s about 7 months old and very fine boned. She’s waiting for a forever home at the shelter.
How’s your Fall decorating coming? Flora doesn’t have a home to decorate, so she’s decided to decorate herself by rolling in some fallen leaves!🍁 This middle aged girl has been waiting for a home for quite a while. If you’re interested in meeting her, please call the shelter to make an appointment.
These are just some of the animals who were adopted since the Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon began last week! You, too, can adopt your new best friend from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter during WNY’s virtual Furtastic pet adoption event, running through the end of October. The event is all part of Subaru Loves Pets month and made possible by the ASPCA and NorthTown Subaru. Visit Furtastic.us for more info 🐾❤️🎃
Oh the drama! Baby is showing her skills in the dramatic art of playing dead. This 2 year old actress is at the shelter waiting for a family that she can entertain for the rest of her life. Call the shelter for an adoption appointment.
October is black cat awareness month and these 3 would like to make you aware that they have been waiting a LONG times for homes. Each of these guys are friendly adult cats being overlooked for their color. Minoni has a beautiful medium length coat, Ross has stunning green eyes and Binx is a little chonk for those of you that like the rounder cats!
They can be adopted by calling the shelter to make an appointment to come meet them!
*Cue the Sarah McLaughlin song* When you donate to Friends of the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter you help save animals like Glennon, a tiny stray kitten that came to us with a broken femur. There was no guarantee she would make it through orthopedic surgery, or that it would be successful in such a tiny bone, but we had to try. Her dedicated foster family has helped her through her recovery and she is now almost 4 months old and ready to find her forever home. She would do best in a quiet, cat savvy home with older children as she’s a little shy, but playful, and has typical Tortie-tude.
You can adopt a furry family member from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter during WNY's Furtastic VIRTUAL Pet Adoption event. It's all a part of @Subaru Loves Pets Month and made possible by the @ASPCA and @Northtown Subaru. It kicks off on today and will run through October 31 at furtastic.us
Zora and Joy (with volunteer Wendy) would like to announce our Paws and Pumpkins event this weekend was a smashing success! Nearly $9,000 was raised for our shelter animals! ❤️Thanks to everyone that attended, donated and shared the event. A very special thank you to our hosts at MaeLen Farms for their hard work to make this event such a success. Check them out if you haven’t gotten your pumpkins yet, they have so amazing varieties! (Zora is available for adoption, Joy has applications pending!)
We are almost ready for the fall fun! Today 10-4 at 11121 Jamison Rd East Aurora
Tomorrow and Sunday! HUGE basket raffle, adoptable dogs and cats will be there 11-2. Family and dog friendly event. Come visit us at this awesome family farm, support small businesses!
It’s National Black Dog Day and if you don’t have anyone to celebrate with, come adopt Pierre! He’s a big celebration packed into a small body, he is nothing but fun and energy. Adoptions can be done by calling the shelter for an appointment.
Just a reminder that next weekend we’re having this super fun, outdoor, masked, event! Plenty of room to spread out, free parking, no admission and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Shelter. Our basket raffle is looking great, and adoptable dogs and cats will be in attendance. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome too. Come get your pumpkins and have some Fall fun with us!
It’s breakfast time and Joanie would like you to know she prefers bacon breakfast sandwiches to Timbits! 🥓 She likes long walks in the park, is a fan of canal side, likes little kids, but hates baths. If you think you’re a good match, and promise to take her to breakfast on occasion, please contact the shelter to meet Joanie!
4 year old Roi is one of our longest stay cats for no good reason. He is a friendly, laid back guy. You can visit him at the adoption center in PetSmart on Elmwood Ave in North Buffalo.
9/20/20 - we’re no longer accepting applications, we have so many more than we have Leos.
Who’s looking for a BIG puppy? Leo is just about a year old and ready to find a home that appreciates his energy and zest for life. For more info or to contact his foster home click here:
Greta is getting desperate. We heard last night that she tried to stow away in someone’s purse! She came in with a litter of kittens who have long since been adopted, and still she waits. She has moved to Daisy’s Doghouse on Hertel at Norwalk to wait for a forever home. We have discovered that she doesn’t much care for dogs, but is friendly to people and cats. Greta is about a year old, barely more than a kitten herself!
Nala is waiting for you at Pet Supplies Plus on Delaware Ave in North Buffalo. She’s 6-8 months old, just a teenager who promises not to stomp up the stairs, roll her eyes or demand more allowance. 😸😹
Maria has a sad story like so many of our strays. Our dog control officers chased her for weeks until they finally captured her heavily pregnant. No owner came looking for her. Her puppies were adopted the second they were ready, but nobody wants mom. She’s a sweet dog, 1.5-2 ish years old, 45ish pounds, and prefers a home without cats or other small animals. A generous, anonymous donor is sponsoring a portion of her adoption fee. You can make an appointment to meet her by calling the shelter.
Baxter has been with us the longest, so a very kind anonymous donor has sponsored a reduced adoption fee and he is also sponsored with training for him! For more info about this big lug click this link:
Thank you National Fuel for your continued support of our Train-A-Bull sponsorship program! To learn how you can help support our training program contact us at [email protected].
We want to to give a HUGE thank you to the organizers of the Buffalo Marathon, Tito's Handmade Vodka and the generous people of WNY for raising $10,250 to help our homeless animals. Thanks to Milk Bone for filling the car with cases of dog biscuits. We live in the BEST community!
🚨House panther alert! 🚨 Lil’ Mama is a quiet, shy, sweet mini panther looking for a home. She’s been in foster for several months, raised her kittens, seen them off, but nobody has come for her.

Today’s tip comes from Ester:
“Baking is an excellent way to keep busy these days. Get out your favorite recipe and get to work! Mine favorite is biscuits and I like to make them with my brother.”
Ester and her brother are adorable tabby twins, just about a year old. They are at Petsmart in North Buffalo waiting for their forever home. Meet them there!
If you're doing some baking while you're stuck inside because of social distancing why not adopt Raphaella? She's excellent at making biscuits! Text her foster mom Barb at (716) 465-7157 if you need a little help in the kitchen.
We are thankful for the caring WNY community that supported and donated to our Thanksgiving meal for pets tonight. We are especially grateful for Chef Malik and Joey who prepared and served the food with such care. ❤️ This is the third year that he has selflessly done this for our animals. While we wish they were all in forever homes, we are so glad that they can have a little something special anyway.
Zorro Training Update!
Our Train-A-Bull student, Zorro, is focusing on his muzzle training with his team. It is our hope that once he is trained to comfortably wear a muzzle we will be able to better understand his ability to interact with other dogs with the help of our professional trainer.
Chiquita leaves for Train & Board @K9 Vision!
She doesn't know it yet, but our Chiquita just received her first formal lesson. Here we see Miles of @K9 Vision taking Chiquita out of her kennel – FOREVER! This girl is now going to be spending her time in the care of professional trainer Miles and remain with him as a foster dog until she is adopted. We can’t wait to see her progress!
Meet Peggy! This young cat is incredibly sweet and friendly. She’s missing part of her back leg, but that doesn’t seem to bother her at all. And! She does high fives for head scratches! ✋ Visit her at the shelter. We are open until 7pm today and our reduced cat adoption fees are still in effect!
Woo! Kitten Party! Christopher Robin (black & white), Roo (brown tabby & white), and Eeyore (silver tabby) are ten week old kittens. They are adorable and playful and fun. Come join us see if one or two would fit into your family. The shelter is open until 7pm!
Marla tried so hard to catch Catrick Stewart's eye but he was resistant to her charms. Did she catch yours? Come meet this spunky, playful girl at the shelter. (Or if you like a more laid back cat Catrick Stewart is also waiting for a home.)
Thanks to everyone who joined us at Soma Cura for our cat yoga event yesterday! It was really fun and our cats and kittens had a great day out of the shelter. One lucky kitty even found his forever home! Nameowste ❤️
Caturday is quickly approaching and if you're looking for a new friend, please consider Alicia. This little gal has a big personality! For some reason, she's the last one of her litter to be adopted so she's a little lonely. She's funny, she's opinionated, she's adorable, and she's got amazing squishy feet! Meet her at the shelter!
Mike is letting everyone know how he feels about being stuck in a cage instead of being in a home with toys, people, and respectful cats. He's not happy about it. Come to the shelter tomorrow and take him home. If you're looking for a cat without the manic kitten energy we have plenty of young adult cats, too!
Many families have quirky holiday traditions, and ours is no different. At least ten years old, the sentiment of this video remains the same. Thank you for helping us save lives again this year. Merry Christmas from your friends at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.
We've got kittens! They're rambunctious and adorable! Stop by the shelter tomorrow to meet them. We're open 9:30-2:30.
Blaine and Duckie are cutting it up at the shelter. We're closed now but if you'd like to meet them we're open from 9AM-7PM tomorrow.
It's kittenpalooza here at the shelter!
Spring flowers have arrived! Our Spring flower kittens are here at the shelter waiting to meet you! Lilac, Tulip, Sweet Pea, and Iris are adorable and looking for homes, alone or in pairs. 😍
We're happy to announce that both of Leo's broken legs are now healed and he's ready to be adopted! Thanks you go out to Community Pet Care, McClelland Small Animal Hospital, and everyone that donated towards Leo's medical care. As you can see, Leo has moved on to helping raise orphaned kittens while he waits for his forever home to come along. If you are interested in adopting Leo (or one of our many kittens as they become available) please let us know.
If you're looking for a baking partner, Keanu would be a perfect fit! As you can see, he loves to make biscuits. Come meet him at the shelter tomorrow. We're open 9 AM-7 PM.
Pepper and Sparky are a bonded pair of black and white cats who came into the shelter together recently. Sparky had to stay in the vet room for a little longer so they didn't make it to the adoption floor at the same time. Today they were reunited! <3
Meet Jack! We really should have named this goofball Jumpin' Jack Flash, given his impressive playing skills. Jack's got a neat look with his bobtail, striking tabby markings, and big yellow eyes. He's got a lot to say and loves attention. He's looking for his forever home and he's sure to be a very fun addition to his new family. Meet Jack at the shelter!
Welcome to Tortie Tuesday! Meet the beautiful and affectionate Ms. Bebe! This gal is new to the shelter, so we're still getting to know her. She's definitely got that famous tortie-tude - she's knows what she wants and she enjoys being admired. And check out those sweet squishy feet! Come meet her at the shelter!
We are head over tiny tails in love with Haley, a new arrival to the shelter. This ginger girl is very sweet and has the cutest stubby tail that she wags like a dog. Meet this pretty kitty at the shelter tomorrow from 9:30 - 2:30!
Meet Milo! This big headed guy also has an equally big heart. He loves to snuggle and plays well with other dogs. He has manners too- like taking treats nicely and walks like a gentleman. House broken too, what more could you want! Email his foster mom at [email protected] if you would like to meet Milo!
Good morning! from Lucy & Lena... two four month old sisters available for adoption at the shelter.
We love posting our feline friends to Facebook, but sometimes the pictures don't do them justice. Check out this short video of some of our adoptable cats and see them in action!
There is no better way to warm your home all year long than to adopt a homeless pet.
Meet Opie! He's a fun and friendly guy who's looking for a home. Stop down and meet him and his friends at the shelter today. Today is our LAST day for reduced adoption fees, and we're open until 2:30pm! (jr)

Paws & Pumpkins
Hello everyone! I’m bout to abort this adorable boy. Wondering how oof you might think he is, we are thinking 2-3? And what kind? He’s pure bread husky just can’t figure out which breed I’m thinking someone might know.
Hope you enjoy the food and supplies we just gave you to not let my daughter in to see the cats. Oh and making her cry too. Assholes.
Is there a fee for surrendering a cat?
Hey guys! Just Tonks (Lilo) dropping in to say “I’m out here, living my best life. I get unlimited snuggles and cuddles from my humans and sisters. They let me step all over them if it means getting comfy. I really cannot believe I went from wanting a home, to having the best home ever! I have a big yard to play in, I like to poop in the driveway, and I also get excited to meet new friends and other dogs. I have awesome neighbors who also bring their dog over to play in my backyard with me and my sister! You’ll never catch me running the streets ever again! Thank you for letting my mom and dad adopt me!”
Our schnauzer Summer is missing from the Valley area in Buffalo NY. She is chipped. Please call us 292-6476 if she is brought to shelter. Police said to reach out to you asap. We will call in the am. Thank you
