🚨 We’re asking for a miracle and we need Buffalo’s help to make it happen 🚨

👯‍♀️ Father’s Day came and went, but these sisters are STILL waiting for a Daddy (or Mommy, they truly do not discriminate). Estrella and Akira 🐾 are bonded sister duo who love each other so hard it’s almost a personality trait. They light up when they see each other 🥹 They p*e at the same time every time 😂 They refuse to walk without each other.

Here’s the thing, though. Finding a home willing to take two middle aged large dogs is a big ask, and we know it. Shelter life is hard and kennel stress is real, so if the perfect “both sisters” home doesn’t come through, we will have to separate them to get them out faster. That’s always our last resort, never our first choice 💔

So we’re going full Hail Mary mode 🙏

📢 Call that second cousin you haven’t spoken to since the Thanksgiving 2022 incident
📢 Tag your Buffalo people AND your not Buffalo people

The goods on these girlies:
🐕 About 70-75 lbs each
🎂 Estimated at 5 years old
🏠 Came from the same litter
🐶 Good with other dogs. Estrella prefers to just coexist, Akira’s a little more playful but still low key
🛋️ Certified couch potatoes who need coaxing to do literally anything besides snuggle and snack
🍿 If you want a double feature of Netflix and chill, these two ARE the casting call
🐱 Cat-free home required, please and thank you

These girls just want their person (or people) and a couch to call their own 🥺 Could that be you?

🐺💙 Somewhere out there, Violet’s pack is waiting for her.

At just 2 years old, this stunning husky mix has already survived more than most dogs ever should. Found alone in a field after what is believed to have been a devastating car accident, Violet was pregnant, missing part of her tail, had lost part of a paw, and the skin had been torn from her foot. One of our Animal Control Officers rushed her for emergency veterinary care, where she spent a week fighting to recover. Tragically, she lost her puppies during that time.

But Violet never gave up.

Today, those piercing blue eyes belong to a happy, gentle soul who has discovered the joys of toys, dog friends, and simply being loved.

Like many huskies, Violet craves connection. She wants to be part of a pack. Whether that’s another dog, a family that’s home often, or both, Violet is happiest when she’s with her people.

And her favorite hobby? Being outside with you. 🌿☀️

Working in the garden? Violet will happily supervise. Pulling w**ds? She’s watching. Drinking your morning coffee on the patio? She’s there. She doesn’t need to be the center of attention—she just wants to be near her people, quietly soaking up the comfort of belonging.

Because of her past, Violet can struggle with being left alone and would do best with a stable pack to help her feel safe and secure. She enjoys walks, does well with other dogs, appears to be cat-friendly, and prefers peaceful adventures over busy, noisy environments.

The best part? Violet has been lucky enough to be fostered by a veterinarian who knows her well and is committed to helping her transition successfully into her forever home. Her foster is happy to answer questions and provide guidance to help Violet settle into the life she deserves.

After everything she’s endured, Violet isn’t looking for perfection.

She’s looking for her pack.

We know they’re out there. 🐾💙

⚠️ ADOPTABLE GOOD BOY ALERT ⚠️

He was Gopher at the shelter, but his foster mom took one look at him and said - nope, this boy is a Gonzo! And has lovingly referred to him as such ever since.

Gonzo is a volunteer FAVORITE - the kind of dog that makes everyone's day just by existing. Now he's in a foster home showing us exactly what life with him looks like, and spoiler: it looks really, really good.

Here's what you need to know about him:

✅ Big dogs? Love 'em.
✅ Small dogs? No problem.
✅ Cats? Passed his cat test with flying colors.
✅ Car rides? Ready for any adventure.
✅ Crate? Zero complaints.
✅ Making friends? It's basically his full-time job.

Gonzo is a 2-year-old pittie mix (those giant paws and that slightly fluffy coat have us thinking there might be some Rottie or Shepherd in there too 👀) and he is truly a wonderful dog. He's not just adoptable. He's the whole package.

Ready to meet your new best friend? 💌 Email [email protected] and let's get Gonzo into the loving forever home where he belongs!

🖤🌞 Meet Solstice 🌞🖤

In honor of yesterday’s summer solstice, it only seems right to introduce our very own little ray of sunshine in a fluffy black cat suit. 🐈‍⬛✨

Solstice is petite, sweet, and rocking the most adorable long floofy fur and big round cartoon eyes you’ve ever seen. 🥹🖤

She’s a little nervous at first…but give her about 30 seconds and she’ll be nuzzling into you for cuddles and delivering sweet little head butts. 🥰💕 She just wants someone to love.

We haven’t had the chance to see how she does with other kitties yet, but we’re getting to know this precious girl more every day. 🌙✨

Come meet Solstice at CBAS, 380 Oak Street in Buffalo! No appointment needed. Just stop by anytime we’re open. 🏡🐾

🖤 Would you adopt an all-black kitty? Tell us your favorite thing about black cats in the comments and help us find Solstice her perfect family by liking, commenting, and sharing! 🖤🐾

Buffalo raised these guys right 💙🐾

This Father’s Day we’re celebrating the human dads, dog dads, cat dads, and foster dads who didn’t have to show up for the animals of CBAS, but do anyway. Every single week. 🥹

🌿 Justin, who w**d whacks, leaf blows, and mows the shelter grounds
🚐 Kurt, who drives our pups (and volunteers) all over Buffalo in the PAWS truck for parades and events. Volunteer Rachel says “he has Big Dad Energy for sure!”
🐱 Pete, who comes every Monday to socialize our scared, overwhelmed kitties with so much patience
⭐ Dennis, who brings a CBAS dog to Seneca One every Wednesday to be our beloved Seneca Star
🐕 Joe, who shows up event after event to prove to dogs who don’t love men that guys can be okay
🐾 John, who said: “moving at the dog’s pace and comfort level helps them come out of their shell. Once they trust you, it makes their stay a little less stressful.” Oreo, in his pic, was one of his favorites
😄 Jey, front desk dad-joke king. Volunteer Kristyn’s favorite: “when I ask him to check something he tells me it will be 2 dollars. And I say put it on my tab!”
☀️ Moe, who says on his worst days the pups still brighten his life

And then there’s Dustin Yourman, the CBAS Step Dad. Volunteer Rachel says: “He didn’t bring all these dogs into the shelter, but he is committed to them anyway. He volunteers most days of the week and somehow knows just about every dog that comes through our doors. He’s a great matchmaker for adopters and fosters. He truly is the Dad who stepped up 😅💪”

Foster dad Ron has either gotten on board or given up, honestly hard to tell. But he can’t resist them, and his training game has gotten pretty good 😂

Foster dad Nate keeps it real: “being a CBAS foster dad means wanting to get a big chunk of land and foster ALL of the dogs”

To every dad, step dad, and foster dad here. Thank you for loving animals who needed someone to show up 🧡

☕️❤️ Sasha is Easy Like Sunday Morning ❤️☕️

Some dogs come into your life with a lot of fanfare. Sasha is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart.

This sweet 6-year-old girl found her way to the shelter after getting loose from home. Sadly, her family wasn’t able to come back for her, but we’re determined to help her find the next chapter she deserves.

At around 50 pounds, Sasha is the definition of a calm, steady companion. She’s the kind of dog who’s happy to join you for a walk, relax by your side, and simply be part of your day.

Sasha is beautiful inside and out. She doesn’t need a scarf to make a statement, but she sure looks adorable wearing one. Add a pearl necklace and she’d have the whole elegant Sunday-morning look perfected. 😍

Her previous family shared that she lived successfully with both large dogs and smaller dogs around 20 pounds. Cats, however, are not on Sasha’s list of friends—those furry creatures are just a little too tempting to chase. Squirrels and rabbits also tend to catch her attention on walks. 🐿️

It’s no surprise that Sasha quickly became a volunteer favorite and was scooped up by a foster home. Since arriving, she’s received what can only be described as a near-perfect report card:

✅ No accidents in the house
✅ Crates beautifully overnight
✅ Quiet and respectful in the home
✅ Loving and affectionate
✅ Actually puts herself to bed when she’s ready for the night (yes, really 😍)

Now, no dog is perfect. But Sasha is making a pretty convincing case that she’s awfully close.

If you’re looking for a calm, constant companion and a truly wonderful roommate, Sasha may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.

📧 Reach out to Sasha’s foster via email to learn more and set up a meet-and-greet. One afternoon with this sweet girl, and you’ll understand why everyone who meets her falls in love.

It began as a simple act of kindness.
A CBAS volunteer brought a scared, shy shelter dog home to give her a break from the stress of shelter life. And what began as fostering, became FAMILY - a beautiful win/win/win for the dog, her foster mom, and her foster mom's brother, too. 🥹

Shaye's brother, Shawn , shares:

"Prior to adopting Sidney, I had been looking to adopt a dog for about six to eight months. I saw many dogs come through the shelter that caught my interest, but for one reason or another, the timing just never felt right. Looking back now, I truly believe everything happens for a reason.

My sister, who volunteers at the shelter, ended up fostering a dog named Sidney. Little did I know at the time that she would become the dog that completely changed my life. When I first met Sidney, she kept her distance from me. Honestly, I thought maybe it just was not meant to be. But as the days went on and I spent more time around her, she slowly began showing her true personality. She became loving, playful, cuddly, and incredibly sweet.

When my sister mentioned that Sidney was going to be put up for adoption, something immediately clicked in my mind. I remember thinking, “Hold up…I think she’s the one.” Looking back now, I am so thankful I listened to that feeling.

Coming from a background filled with neglect, and very little love, Sidney’s ability to trust and love people is nothing short of incredible. Despite everything she went through, she became one of the most loving dogs anyone could ever ask for. She has such a gentle heart and brings happiness to everyone around her.

Sidney completely changed my outlook on life. No matter what kind of day I am having, she is always there to make it better. Her excitement, loyalty, and unconditional love remind me every day to appreciate the small things in life. She has taught me patience, compassion, and how powerful love and trust can truly be.

Adopting Sidney was one of the best decisions I have ever made. She is not just my dog — she is family, my best friend, and a constant reminder that even after difficult experiences, love and happiness are still possible."

🛹 Rolling into your hearts: it's Stevie Caballero! 😻

Named after the pro skateboarder for his own signature slight head tilt, this 2.5-year-old guy has all the right tricks in his bag: snuggle sessions, fuzzy blanket grinds, a tail-chase 360, and a kickflip-worthy love for any food you're willing to share.

He came into foster care to heal up from a wound away from the shelter environment, and he stuck the landing fast, quickly becoming a family favorite. Stevie loves being near his people and splits his affection evenly among the household. When foster mom works from home, he's right there next to her on the spare chair, and if anything's blocking his line to the chair, he'll just stare at her until she clears it 😅. This cat always calls his line!

Stevie currently lives happily with two dogs (one 90 lbs, one 9 lbs) and gets along great with both. He also did well around cats at the shelter.

Full of personality and easygoing through and through, Stevie is ready for his forever home. Interested? Email foster mom Jill at [email protected] for more info! 💕

Say hello to Diesel! 👋
This handsome 47-lb boxer/bulldog mix has a story we're still piecing together. What do you think he's mixed with? His coat and skin could use a little TLC, and we think good food, a comfy bed, and a low-stress home are just the prescription. 🩺

He's around 3-5 years old, but don't let that soulful, sad-eyed face fool you: this boy is still full of plenty fun and frolic! 🎾 Give him a ball and some yard time and he'll happily fetch or romp around entertaining himself for hours. Diesel is eager to learn and can't wait to build a bond with his new person from day one. 🥰

He's also a great walking companion, ready for adventures around town, and once the day winds down, he turns into a total snuggle bug 🥹

Diesel's a little awkward meeting new dog pals at first (relatable for everyone), so if you have a resident pup, a meet & greet is a must – but give him room to warm up and he'll engage when he's ready. He's packed his bags 🧳 and he's ready for his next chapter. Could you be the one to help him start it? Come meet Diesel anytime we're open!
