Just a friendly reminder that in order to retrieve your dog from the Shelter you need proof of ownership. Proof of ownership is not pictures. Rabies vaccines are required by law, dog licenses are required by law, the paperwork associated with either of these in your name are proof. Vet records in your name is proof. If you get a dog from someone you need to make sure it has a valid rabies vaccine, license the dog to yourself and get microchips or records transferred into your name. Please place a tag with minimally your current phone number on the dogs collar.
If your dog goes missing, make sure your voice mail isn’t full and answer calls from unknown numbers.

Oreo is a beautiful blue eyed Balinese cat who had to be surrendered due to family circumstances. Oreo is a shy girl who has lived her whole 5 years in a single adult home with no other animals. All potential adopters will need to have a very similar home. Oreo is currently at Daisy's Doghouse on Hertel Ave in North Buffalo. Please see Petfinder link for contact info:

Can you spot the fracture? It’s Spring and we have our first broken leg dog of the season. This dog has surgery yesterday and has moved into a foster home to heal. It’s also Giving Now Tuesday, and with the shelter closed to the public, community events canceled and so many out of work, our donations are down. We’re asking for your help. If you can’t afford to donate money, we are also in need of laundry detergent, any liquid brand or scent. Detergent can be shipped to the shelter or left outside the front door Mon-Sat 9-1. Thank you! 🐾

Today’s tip comes from Ester:

“Baking is an excellent way to keep busy these days. Get out your favorite recipe and get to work! Mine favorite is biscuits and I like to make them with my brother.”

Ester and her brother are adorable tabby twins, just about a year old. They are at Petsmart in North Buffalo waiting for their forever home. Meet them there!

Daisy's Doghouse on Hertel Avenue is a wonderful adoption partner for our shelter. They are currently hosting Brave Heart. Isn't he handsome? He's got quite a rescue story and now he's ready and waiting for his forever home. Meet him at Daisy's!

Meet Brave Heart. He was hit by a car, rescued by one of our favorite customers, the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter took him in and Katie has nursed him to health. Now he is available for adoption at Daisy’s! Sweet big boy❤️❤️

Just a reminder that if your pet comes in wearing tags, we can get them back to you quickly. Almost all of the animals that come to us are not wearing tags, have tags with out-of-service numbers or old addresses. It only takes a minute to order new name tags, so do it now!
If your pet is chipped, have your vet scan it every year to make sure the chip hasn’t migrated and make sure that you keep your information up to date with the chip company!

Today's Tip comes from Tootsie:

"In tough times, it often helps to just listen rather than speak all the time. That is certainly easier if you have gigantic ears! So, channel your inner kitten and take a listen. Or bring me home and I can help."

Tootsie and her brother and sister are currently at PetSmart awaiting their forever homes.

Hi I’m Tino! I’m approximately 2 years old, but I still have a ton of my puppy spunk! I really only have two speeds—play and sleep; although I really prefer play. My favorite game is fetch with the tennis ball, or I like to test out my strength with rope toys! I currently live in a foster home with 4 other dogs, and I LOVE them all. I really just want to be friends with everyone I come across; pets and people. Sometimes the older dogs in my home get annoyed by my constant playfulness, but I eventually get the hint and decide to just go hang out in my crate with my favorite bone, and usually take a nap. There is also a cat that lives here, but every time I go and try to play with him, he beats me up, so I’ve learned to stay away from him altogether. I am a super fast learner; my foster mom taught me how to sit, stay, come, lay down, and to go into my crate just by tapping on it, in under 2 weeks. The one thing I’m still having a hard time with is jumping on my humans, because I like to jump up and give them kisses whenever they come near me. But my mom says I’m doing great, because I don’t mess with people when they’re hanging out on the furniture.
If you’re interested in finding out more or in meeting Tino, please email [email protected]

Our foster families always make a huge difference for our cats and dogs. This even more true now that the shelter is temporarily closed. Check out Merlin, a fantastic guy who is absolutely blossoming with his foster mom, Lauren!

🐱 Meet Merlin!

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic our Creative Marketing Director, Lauren, has been fostering cats through the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.

And this is Merlin! Here’s a quick bio:

“Merlin is a very sweet and snuggly boy once you've earned his trust! We don't know what his past was but he's a bit of a scaredy cat when he's first getting to know you, and will hide until he feels comfortable. But once he does he'll be your snuggle buddy for life!

He loves getting pets more than anything, and will wiggle his body and face into your hands to get them. He's extremely gentle, even when frightened.

Would do best in a home with no kids as loud noises scare him. Gets along well with calm, cat-loving dogs and seems ok with other cats, as long as they're ok with him.

Merlin is 18 months old and comes neutered with all of his vaccinations. His adoption fee is $60 which includes his first vet visit and an adoption package from PetSmart.”

💌 Interested in adopting sweet Merlin? Email Lauren at [email protected]

Today's Tip comes from Leo:

"You should take some time every day to look at something beautiful. There is a lot of it around us. If you're having trouble finding some, you could adopt me. Just sayin'. I am very handsome and have unique markings."

Leo is quite a charmer and has put all of the volunteers under his spell with his lovebug nature. He is currently at PetSmart.

Today's Tip comes from Emmy:

"When you are going through something like this, try not worry too much about grooming. It's OK to be a little scraggly around the edges, like me when I first came to the shelter. The people who love you won't care, and hey, it's not like they can get a haircut either, so🤷‍♀️. Soon you'll be back to your beautiful self and you'll appreciate it even more. I sure did!"

Pretty tortie Emmy definitely knows what she's talking about. At two years old, she's playful and sweet. She's currently at PetSmart waiting for her forever home.

Samson (formerly Benny) cooling off in my stock tank with two of my granddaughters.
Has amyone turned in my sister in laws cat??? Maybe? Ran away July 4th , from her home on grove street in buffalo ny. She has put out litter box, scents of home like blankets and clothing, food and water.shes been sick over it looking 5 times or more a day in her neighborhoods. 😭😭
Maggie just checking in to say hello! Almost 5 years ago was her “Gotcha Day”. Still loving the dog bed. Hope all of you are staying well❤️
Áine (formally Holly) knows it's dinnertime. Everyday at 5 o'clock this is what she does. Think she has been spoiled?
Just a friendly “pupdate” on our baby Tonks (Lilo) adopted on March 3rd from COBAS. She was our missing piece and has become a true best friend to our other dog Marlee (pictured). I plan to flood you guys with pictures and updates of her forever. She’s such a snuggle bug. Will post a video below in the comments of her enjoying her nice big back yard. 🥰🐶🥰
It's been a week without our beloved Beanie. Someone must have picked him up! We are offering a $500 reward for his return. Please continue to keep an eye out for him!
We adopted 2 kittens on March 14. Someone must have fostered them, because they have EXCELLENT manners. They are in love with our old grumpy cat, respectful to our old grumpy dog, affectionate to us, and adorable with eachother. Really, we can't thank you enough! The cuteness never ends.
She's only been here for 3 hours, but Alice has made herself at home right away!
An update from Buster 🖤
A huge thanks for letting us forever home this beauty! Formally known as Ramona, now Mona Lisa 😻 we got her December 3, 2019 and is living the life!!! Also has three human and one dog brother 💙💙💙💙
This is Thor. I adopted him from Buffalo Animal Shelter on Dec. 14, 2017. He will be 5 on Halloween of this year. I feel like I'm the luckiest person to ever adopt a furbaby! Thor, along with my human son, both work for me. He has not left my side since the day I adopted him. He goes to the job sites with me, he's in the shop with me, he goes to the stores with me, to the restaurants with me, everybody knows him, & everybody loves him. And he loves everybody, and everything... including cats (he lays out in the yard with the neighborhood cats) It truly is amazing how awesome he is. He's so smart. He's so well-behaved, & he doesn't get obsessed over toys or food. He just wants his ball! But he's more than happy to give it to you, or any other puppy that wants to play with him. I've been walking him in the warmer months, 6 mile long walks from underneath the Grand Island bridge all the way to the police station through Niawanda and Isle View. And all this time, I've never used a collar or a leash, and all he's ever done is make friends with every pooch that gets near him. I carry the orange Chuck-It stick with his ball. It's like a virtual tether with total control. He's so focused on the ball and the stick, because all he wants me to do is throw it, that when I walk with it, he walks with me, circling me, always keeping his eyes on the stick. He literally has bumped into other dogs on the path cuz he doesn't see them. He doesn't care after he bumps into them or notice them at all. People laugh. 😄 I am so happy That my sister shared a video on FB of one of your volunteers giving him a walk that day, or he never would have rescued me 💜
