Sometimes the timing to adopt isn't right - until it is.

And sometimes, apparently, the universe just needs to put your future best friend in front of you twice. 😻😻 We saw that yesterday when our entire CBAS community came together for Lloyd and his long brown haired woman, whose love connection came alive with such unexpected excitement from all over the world! 🌎 (We promise to update everyone on Tuesday when we reopen!)

Today's is yet, another missed connection. (Spoiler alert: Friday turned out to be one very lucky cat.)

CBAS volunteer Madison shares:

"Friday was picked up by DCO Jen on Good Friday 2025, earning him the name Friday. He was hanging out at the shelter in May when I first met him, falling in love with him instantly.

I knew he was my cat.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right time and my partner said “no way are we taking in a cat right now” so I heartbrokenly left the shelter without Friday. I watched the Petfinder every day until I saw his profile disappear, and although I was so happy for him to have a loving home, I was also devastated because I knew he was MY baby 😢.

Three weeks later or so I was wandering Pet Supplies Plus on Delaware Ave, picking up supplies for my own pets. And there he was: FRIDAY, hanging out in the cat condo!

I immediately called my partner crying that he was back. We called volunteer Patty that day and processed his adoption that weekend.

Friday is the biggest love bug. He wants to be held and cradled at all times. He sleeps on my chest or back all night. He has been the best brother to the foster kittens and dogs we bring through the house, constantly teaching them how to be!

He truly is my best friend and little buddy. I love him more than life itself!"

Animal loving peeps! Let's keep these love connections going! We have SO many amazing cats and dogs available right now. Don’t YOU, too, want to create your very own love story???

📣 TO THE WOMAN WITH THE LONG BROWN HAIR WHO MET LLOYD YESTERDAY—THIS IS YOUR SIGN.

To the very nice woman who came to the shelter yesterday and met Lloyd…

We saw the way you connected with him. ❤️ You really seemed to have a soft spot for this sweet boy.

And then, while you were there, you watched another family meet Lloyd. You told us you thought, “If they choose him, then maybe it’s not meant to be.”

Well… they were going to adopt him.

But they just changed their minds.

So here we are, putting this out into the universe: Lloyd is still waiting. 🐾

Maybe you were right yesterday. Maybe it is meant to be. Maybe Lloyd was supposed to find his way to you, just not quite in the way you expected.

So, long-brown-haired Lloyd fan… if you’re seeing this, come back and see your boy. 🥹

We’ll be here. And Lloyd will be waiting. ❤️🐶

That’s Everest. 🏔️

Animals end up in our care for all kinds of reasons, and for Everest, it really comes down to one thing: bad luck. 😢

His owner left him behind, and due to landlord restrictions, he couldn’t stay with the family who stepped up to care for him. But there’s good news: he is what dreams are made of. We’re confident some lucky duck is going to get to bring him home very soon. 🤞

Here’s what we already know about this handsome guy:
🐾 3 years old — Shepherd/Blue Tick Hound mix
👶👧 Previously lived with children and did well. (Cautious introductions are always encouraged.)
🤘🐶 A rockstar with other dogs! His energy isn’t off the charts 📈, but he happily played with other shelter pups.
🧠 Knows some basic commands

Everest has us ready to shout it from the mountaintops, but unfortunately those aren't readily accessible....our social media accounts are though, so here it goes:

🗣️🗣️COME GET THIS DOG! 😂 He’s so nice and so cool!!!

Meet-and-greets with the whole family are required, so bring your dogs, bring your kids, and come see what we’re talking about! ❤️
Let’s get Everest out of a kennel and into a comfy home once again. He’s waiting at CBAS.

💙 This is what the 716 is all about.

Somewhere in Buffalo, there is a woman who quietly sends two single-dollar bills to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.

Every week. Without fail. Like clockwork.

Two dollars.

In a world where it can feel like there is so much bad news, we wanted to share a little bit of the good.

Because sometimes goodness looks like two single-dollar bills in an envelope.

Sometimes caring means giving what you can, whenever you can.

And those two dollars, along with the generosity of all of our incredible donors, help us care for the dogs and cats who come through our doors. They help provide food, medical care, treats, toys and all of the little things that make their days a little better.

We don’t know her name. We may never meet her. But we notice. And we are incredibly grateful.

We are grateful for every single person who supports these animals — whether you donate $2, $20, a bag of treats, your time, your home as a foster, or your heart as an adopter.

Every bit of it matters. ❤️

So when you see Lenny happily walking down the street with his emotional-support stuffy proudly hanging out of his mouth, think about that anonymous Buffalo woman.

Because donations like hers help make those little moments possible. 🐾

And yes, when Lenny finds his home, his stuffy is going with him. Obviously. 😂

Be more like this lady. That’s a goal we think everyone should have.

We don’t mean you need to mail us two single-dollar bills every week. 😂

Just do something kind. Give what you can. Help where you can.

And heck…adopt a dog or cat while you’re at it. 🐶🐱

Because Buffalo is the City of Good Neighbors.

And this anonymous woman is a pretty beautiful reminder of exactly what that means. 💙

It’s here! 🎉 The moment we wait for all week…Pete’s purr-spective! 🐾

PSA: we just took in 18 cats from a hoarding case and we are VERY full. 😱 We need YOUR help to make room for more cats who need us. 🏠💛

“Alrighty, everyone! Here we go again:

Shelter was relatively quiet, and I still ended up falling behind! I made a point to hang with Giselle a bit. She took pets, and Churu. I didn’t push it with the touch, so no swats. Budo got a Churu and some pets. He gave me one smack, so that was it for the pets. He kept begging for attention though. I was like “Are you gonna be nice to me?” and he was like ‘Totally!’ *wink*. I don’t usually say stuff like this, but I think he just needs to find the right lady, and they will have a super cuddly happily ever after.

Kally took a Churu while I was still holding it, but recoiled at my hand going for touch. No hiss though. I opted to do some touch work with the back end of a wand toy. She didn’t seem to hate it, but wasn’t ready to lean into it either.

I didn’t get Chester out, but he left his litter box, and I have photographic evidence, plus one of my signature tongue-out pics. He was happy to get some pets. Ginger, Anakin, Ethan, and Miss Lady all played well together. Anakin seems shy, but is quite friendly and affectionate if you go to him. Ginger is…orange. Well, half orange. Playful with plenty of kitten energy. Ethan is a little more reserved, but didn’t shy away from the worm toy fray with Ginger. Miss Lady is her little diva self, and provides a perfectly valid excuse to call into work because of a particularly bad case of Cat On My Lap. She’s filling out nicely since I met her two weeks ago. Lily Pad too. We love that.

May your weeks be full of cuddles, snuggles, and as few bandaids as possible. Happy cattin’!!!”

🐾 Buffalo, meet some of the sweetest volunteers around! 🐾

Huge shoutout to Girl Scout Troop 30774 from Williamsville for their incredible donation drive for our shelter pets! 💛

Take a look at all those boxes behind them, every single one is packed with donations for CBAS! Thanks to these girls, our kitties and doggies are getting stocked up on treats, toys, and supplies to keep their tails wagging and their bellies full. 🐶🐱

It takes a village to care for our shelter animals, and troops like this one remind us just how big and generous our Buffalo community is. 👏

Lloyd…WHY ARE YOU SO HANDSOME?! 😂

Seriously. Who is this handsome little stud muffin?! There’s some bulldog in that face, a little pittie mixed in, and somehow Lloyd came out looking like he should have his own cologne ad.

Lloyd is one year old, about 50 pounds, and an absolute doll. And then he does THIS…

You give him a treat and this big, tough-looking guy takes it from your hand as gently as humanly possible. Like a tiny baby sparrow. 🥹 He could probably swallow the whole thing in one bite, but instead he delicately plucks it from your fingers like, “Excuse me, thank you very much.”

He did well with another dog during his assessment, walks nicely on a leash, and is just so darn endearing. You’re going to want to rub that belly, squish those cheeks and basically melt into him.

And this is Lloyd before a bath and while looking just a tiny bit worse for wear. 😂 Can you IMAGINE this handsome hunk after a good scrub and a little TLC?!

Now, one important thing: Lloyd is an absolute NO for cats. Cats are simply not his thing. 🐱🚫

A little reminder for Lloyd’s future people: We know you’re going to want to love on this guy the second he walks through your door—and believe us, we get it. But even the most lovable dogs need some time to decompress and figure out their new surroundings. Give Lloyd some space, structure and a predictable routine at first, and let him settle in at his own pace. Giving a dog space isn’t withholding love—it’s actually part of helping them feel safe and secure. And don’t worry, once he’s settled in, there will be plenty of time for all the belly rubs, cuddles and loving.

Our adoptions are around $250, which includes his spay/neuter, microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, full medical exam, and lots of other fun bonuses in your adoption folder.

No appointment needed — just come down to the shelter and ask for Lloyd.

He’s a doll. A handsome, slightly scruffy, cats-are-not-my-thing, baby-sparrow-treat-taking doll. 🐾

🍊 Meet Marmalade, the queen who gave up everything for her kids and now deserves the whole kingdom for herself 👑

Marmalade spent her time raising her babies (who are all adopted now, go mama!) and now it's finally, finally her turn.

At 4 years old, she's sweet, snuggly and ready to love someone deeply. All she's asking for is a quiet home to call her own 🥹

✨ The Marmalade highlight reel ✨
🩺 Healthy, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped
✅ FIV and FeLV negative
🐱 Can do well with other cats
💛 Deeply lovable

This girl has been putting in the work. Now she just wants a couch, a sunbeam and someone to call hers.

Want to meet her? She hangs out daily at Pet Supplies Plus on Delaware Ave in North Buffalo. Or reach out to Patty directly at 716-361-9452 (call or text) 📱
