Today, I was proud to stand with my partners in government as Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz signed the Biometrics Transparency and Privacy, in which I was the primary sponsor, into law.

This legislation helps ensure transparency, accountability, and privacy by protecting residents from the collection and profiting of their biometric data.

Our residents should never have to sacrifice their privacy in everyday life. Erie County is proud to lead on this issue and take proactive steps to protect the rights and security of our community.

Lose a credit card number and you get a new one. But your face, your fingerprints, your voice? Once a company collects them, they're gone for good.
That's why I fought to make Erie County the first in New York to ban businesses from collecting your biometric data without your consent. Not just a disclosure form buried in fine print. A real prohibition on harvesting and selling who you are.
Signed into law this week. Your body is yours. It's the law in Erie County.

I'm happy to support Erie County's Equal Employment Opportunity department's Resource & Networking Day this Thursday May 21st from 9am-3pm at Northland Workforce Training Center. Attendees will gain valuable insights into MWBE certification requirements, learn how to pursue government contracting opportunities, and engage directly with more than 15 organizations offering critical business resources, including funding opportunities and technical assistance.
