What a great weekend of investing in our community!

I was proud to co-host a Union Job Fair and Back-to-School Giveaway with the Buffalo Central Labor Council AFL-CIO, connecting members of our community with good-paying union career opportunities while helping make sure our young people are ready for the school year.

Thank you to the Buffalo Labor Council, our labor partners, community organizations, volunteers, and everyone who came out to support this event. Your commitment to working families and our children makes a real difference.

Honored to attend Erie County Overdose Awareness Day today. 💜 Remembering those we’ve lost, standing with families and loved ones, and raising awareness that recovery, hope, and support are possible. We must continue to end the stigma and save lives.

Today, in front of ECMC, Johnetta R. Cole Amvets Post No. 24 held a powerful and meaningful trailblazing sign dedication honoring James McDaniels Jr.
This dedication is more than a sign.It is a lasting reminder of a man whose life, character, and contributions made a difference in the community. Honoring James McDaniels Jr. allows us to recognize his legacy and ensure that his name and the impact he made continue to be remembered by generations to come.
It was an honor to stand together today, celebrate his life, and pay tribute to his legacy.

Busy weekend in District 1!

I was proud to once again partner with Fillmore District Council Member Mitch Nowakowski for our Annual Book Bag Giveaway, helping make sure our young people are ready to head back to school with the supplies they need to succeed. 📚🎒

I also had the opportunity to join the community for the 30th Annual Putting the Neighbor Back in the Hood celebration. It is a great reminder of the strength, pride, and resilience that exists in our neighborhoods.

This is what community looks like!

Today, I was proud to stand with my partners in government, the The Salvation Army of Buffalo, NY, and Arc Building Partners as we celebrated the next step in the Salvation Army’s Hope on Main project. Thanks to the efforts of Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and Senator April Baskin, $750,000 was secured to close the gap on Phase 1 and finish the emergency family shelter.

Every family deserves the dignity of having a safe place to sleep, the stability to rebuild their lives, and the opportunity to look toward a brighter future, and I am proud that Erie County was one of the first funders of this amazing project.

Congratulations to Major Lock and the entire team on an inspiring day.

What a wonderful day in District 1! I had the opportunity to attend so many great community events, including the WNY AFL CIO event, the Cheektowaga Jazz & Musical Festival, the 6th Annual Color Run at Johnny B. Wiley, Westy’s/ Sycamore Annual Picnic, the Irish Festival, and the 3rd Annual Taking It to the Courts basketball game featuring the Erie County DA's Office and our local community youth at Collins Park.
It was a beautiful day to connect with residents, support local organizations, and celebrate everything that makes our community so special. Thank you to everyone who organized these events and to all who came out to participate. I am grateful to spend the day with my community!

Today, I had the opportunity to join my colleagues in government, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, and Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology as they unveiled their new mural on BCAT’s building. The mural is a part of the AKG’s Public Art Initiative, and was a collaboration with students from BCAT’s art classes.

Public art is about so much more than creating something beautiful. It tells our stories, celebrates our culture, and reflects the people and neighborhoods that make Buffalo unique. It transforms everyday spaces into places where people can gather, connect, and take pride in their community.

I want to thank the Buffalo AKG for its vision and commitment to ensuring that world-class art is available to all residents.
