On March 18, TAPD Officers Elliott Justinger and Nick Nesci witnessed a tractor trailer on its side on the 90 eastbound. It appeared that the vehicle had (just moments prior) gone off the ramp, over the embankment, landing on the right side and pinning the driver behind the wheel.

When the officers approached the vehicle on foot, there were two individuals speaking to the driver through the broken windshield. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to physically pull the driver from the wreck, our officers broke the steering wheel with a nearby highway marker. One of the good samaritans, who was lying on the ground, spun the wheel so the broken portion was above the drivers leg, and the officers were able to free the driver.

New York State Police and AMR arrived and the driver was examined. In the meantime, our officers helped clean up the highway from spilled product (chocolate milk containers) and were able to restore traffic flow.

What a great job done by Officers Justinger and Nesci for their quick response and resourceful thinking!🚔

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our retired K9 Holly. K9 Holly served the department from 2015 until her retirement in 2020. K9 Holly was an explosive detection K9 who was known for her exceptional nose and confident attitude!
Outside of all of their community policing, Holly and her handler provided support for SuperBowls LII and LIII. We thank Holly for her service and our heart goes out to her handler. Rest In Peace, sweet girl. 🐾🌈

Yesterday one of our officers recieved information from law enforcement in Sacramento, California, regarding the possible transportation of a large amount of ma*****na on an inbound flight to BNIA. K9 Zev and his handler, Officer Nesci, were requested to respond and conduct a free air sniff of the suspicious baggage in question. K9 Zev positively alerted to the presence of narcotic odor on all 5 of the suspicious bags. With the alert from K9, a search warrant was then requested and signed. The warrant was executed on all 5 bags where 120 lbs of ma*****na was located. The ma*****na is worth approximately $400,000.00.
We want to acknowledge a job well done by our Detective Bureau and K9 Zev! #k9 #workingdog

Rest In Peace, Lieutenant.
03/05/2021

Rest In Peace, Lieutenant.

We are saddened to inform you that our beloved Lt. Christine Milosich died on March 1st, 2021. Chrissy valiantly fought cancer, but you wouldn't have known it because of her strength.

Lt. Milosich was hired in 2008, and In 2017, she became the first female TTPD officer to be promoted to lieutenant. Chrissy served many roles at TTPD, but none more important than in 2020, when she became the leader and champion of our Community Services program.

Lt. Milosich's dedication and compassion for her career, community, and people are an example to us all.

We love you, Chrissy.

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that 2 of our retired K9’s have passed.
K9 King (pictured first) served our department from 2013-2018 with his handler, D. Capretto. They were both part of the security detail for Super Bowl 51 & 52. Many of you may recognize King from being out and about whether it was at the Buffalo Airport, Canalside, Coca Cola Field, or Buffalo Bills games.
K9 Cora (pictured second) served our department from 2010-2016 with her handler, B. Bove. Cora will always be remembered for her great nose, hard work, and love of “talking” on the radio every time her handler keyed up.😂
We thank King and Cora for their service, hard work, and dedication to our department. They will be missed, but never forgotten!🖤💙🖤🐺

Cheektowaga Police Department

Great job done by our brothers and sisters at Cheektowaga PD! 🐶💙

Here is heartwarming story to send off 2020! On December 30th at 3:19pm, officers responded to a dog spotted in the creek. Officers attempted to check the creek at various spots, however, the creek has a steep bank and is in a wooded area. Patrolman Rutkowski made his way through the woods and spotted the dog clinging to a tree in the creek. Patrolman Rutkowski entered the water which was waist deep and made his way to the dog. Patrolman Troy Blackchief arrived to help and also entered the water. Patrolman Rutkowski was able to lift the dog off the tree and out of the water and passed the dog to Patrolman Blackchief who was assisted by Cheektowaga Animal Control in getting the dog out of the water. The dog was turned over to the owners and brought to the veterinary clinic to be checked! Great job by all and a happy ending!

We could not wait to take the opportunity to thank Spikes K-9 Fund for donating 9 K-9 Storm vests to our unit! 3 patrol K-9’s were outfitted with ballistic vests and 6 explosive detection K-9’s were outfitted with search and rescue vests! Special shout out to a local Spikes volunteer, Casey! Your patience and assistance with helping us measure all the dogs is appreciated more than you know! Also Thank You to Lieutenant Baker of the Buffalo Police Department K-9 Unit for sending Spikes our way!

Spikes K9 Fund was founded by James Hatch, a retired Special Warfare Operator. As a K-9 handler on several deployments, James’ life was regularly spared by the work of K-9s – one of the most memorable was Spike. And on James’ final deployment, the night he was critically wounded, a K9 spared James’ life while losing his own. From that evening on, James oriented his life around the training, care and preservation of working dogs. In addition to working as the founder and president of the fund, he works with local law enforcement and has adopted a former service dog in need of medical services. Spike’s K9 Fund, with your support, aspires to ensure every K-9 receives exactly what they need every time. We purchase gear to keep them safer and for peak operation, and we pay for critical medical treatment to help them return to work or live their retirement days in complete health.

Thank you, Spike’s K9 Fund for your donation to keep our working K-9’s equipped with the gear they need while they serve protect!

Attached is the link to donate to our K-9 Unit’s fund! Please support such a generous cause!
