Unlock the Power of Literacy
Master of Science in Literacy Education
The Literacy Education Master of Science Degree Program prepares students to meet New York State requirements for certification as a literacy specialist.
Canisius now offers the literacy graduate program completely on-line. For more information about the on-line literacy education program, visit the program web site.
Course sequences in both programs (33 credit hours) provide for certification in one of two areas: pre-K through grade 6 or grade 5 through grade 12. Additional coursework (9 hours) qualifies candidates for certification in both areas.
Each concentration in the master's degree in reading education has a component that involves working with children in a clinical setting, specifically testing and tutoring in the area of literacy skills (reading and writing). Candidates complete their practicums with literacy specialists in one of their districts of choice.
