Banned Books Week 2021 is September 26 – October 2. This year’s theme is “Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us.”

All of the books pictured here were recently banned by a school district in York, PA. The banned books (and other resources) were by or about people of color. Students, along with others in the community protested the ban, made national news, and were able to get the ban reversed. (Link in the comments to an article about the ban and reversal)

Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read. This week, celebrate reading by visiting your favorite bookstore or library to pick up a few of the beautiful books below.

BOOKS PICTURED:
Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut
Mae Among the Stars
The Name Jar
Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History
I Love My Hair
I Am Enough
Hair Love
The Day You Begin
