ConnectLife

ConnectLife Educating the community, inspiring donation, and connecting lives. That's how #weconnectlife! Established in 1981, Unyts, now ConnectLife, was among the leading procurement organizations in the United States, and was one of the only eight centers nationwide to house laboratory services, and organ, tissue and eye procurement in one location.
(116)

With the addition of Community Blood Services, ConnectLife became the first organization of its kind nationwide. The blood collected in Western New York stays right in our community. ConnectLife operates as a non-profit serving the eight counties of Western New York and works to assist donor families, coordinate the donation process and increase knowledge and awareness within the community regarding transplantation.

PART 3 πŸ’™ "We decided we wanted to meet on what would have been Madison's 21st Birthday. So we flew from Buffalo to Boston and it's a day we all will never forget. The heart recipient's son in law is a pilot and he wanted to be the one to get us from Buffalo to Boston safely. We were so shocked when he introduced himself and Amanda did a good job keeping the secret!

Another day filled with so many emotions, I remember feeling sad being Madison's 21st Birthday and nervous to meet the family. That all went away as soon as we set foot into their home. They have a BIG, wonderful family. Seeing all their smiles and the heart recipient playing with her young grandson brought us joy, something we haven't felt in awhile. We instantly clicked and they made us feel like part of their family immediately."

Part 4 will be shared tomorrow.

PART 2 πŸ’™ "The holidays were tough as it was our first without Madison. My mom is a nurse and always regretted not listening to Madison's heartbeat one last time when we said goodbye. My dad wanted to give my mom that gift so he asked our Connect Life counselor, Amanda, for help with that. Amanda and many others worked their magic and was able to get a recording of Madison's heartbeat in the recipient and gave it to my dad. My dad put it in a build-a-bear so my mom could listen to Madison's heartbeat whenever she wanted. My dad recorded my mom opening it and ConnectLife shared the video on their page.

The video went viral and this is when magic really happened... My dad got a message from the daughter of Madison's heart recipient. They seen the video and knew it was us as Madison's heart recipient gave permission to have her heart beat recorded for us. It was a wild rollercoaster of emotions but being able to see the heart recipient and knowing Madison helped that person brought us some joy during a dark time. We wanted to meet them and they wanted to meet us."

PART 1 πŸ’™ "On July 30th 2018 my sister, Madison Barrett, was in a horrendous car accident just down the road from home. She was mercy flighted to ECMC. They allowed my mom and I to see her before they took her into surgery to remove part of her skull to help with the inflammation in her brain. The doctors, nurses, and staff tried everything they could and on August 1st we had to make the tough decision to say goodbye. It was the worse day of our lives. When they asked us about organ donation we didn't even think twice about it, we knew it's what Madison would have wanted."

My Platelet Doantions and I'm truly excited to be doing this and looking forward to doing more donations. πŸ˜Šβ€πŸ’™
I just want to say my first time giving blood (yrs ago) was the most painful excruciating experience. It took me until today at the Cattaraugus County Bldg with Connect Life's Jillian to have a phenomenal experience. Because of her, I will donate again!! Thank you!❀️

Donating to do my part. Thank you Connect Life for my lawn sign
Did my blood donation this morning at the Southgate location. Very professional personnel and it went as smooth as could be! And loved the "Batty for Blood" sign!
I heard there is a blood drive at 3200 Elmwood Thursday the 17th? I do not see it advertised?
Hello, A little behind on this one! This pic was taken July 23rd. I am a regular Platelet donor for the past 6 yrs. An old friend of mine, I know the whole family. We have been apart for almost 40yrs. FB has brought us together. A positive FB story! But I made a hello sign quick for "Cindra". I wrote her I would give her a special hello. CinD has some medical issues. And has had a tough go for some years. So this day Carol was the 1st. to help me out. What a wonderful Woman Carol is! This was before my procedure. At the end, I find out it is Carol's last week with Connect! She did not say anything about it. God bless her for going back to Kidney and Dialysis work. Which then I tell her of a good friend needing a kidney. After cancer, it needed to be removed, and the other kidney was mutated? Then Suzie overheard the name and knew that family! What a coincidence! But after my friend Cindra seen this picture, she said it made her cry! Because I was thinking of her. But what a Great and Humbling experience this was that day! Thank You Carol for 6 years of Friendship and your Professionalism! Another reason I am here every 2 weeks! And going back I always Thanked Barb V. who has since retired also. She was the inspiration for me to donate platelets in 2013 when I met her at the Eastern Hills location. Hopefully people can relate to this story. A little mushy, but hey, life is good! Thank You Connect Life πŸ˜‡ πŸ™‚ ✌️
This organization (when it was known as UNYTS) supplied the blood transfusions my Dad received to sustain his life and helped give our family 6 more months with him. I don't know the names of the Angels who decided to donate blood, but I am grateful with all my heart. He was my world. Thank you.
