Maryvale UFSD hosted their final blood drive of the school year alongside the district’s budget vote as a way to increase awareness of their blood drive. The NAF Academy students partner with Chick-Fil-A on this blood drive through their "Chick-Fil-A Leaders Program" to better understand how one small action- like taking one hour to donate blood- can have a great impact on lives within their community. “I don’t have anything you could use. I’m too old to be an organ donor.” We hear it all the time! But age is just a number when it comes to organ, eye, and tissue donation. Back in February, at 100 years old, Dale "Duffy" Steele from Nebraska became the country's oldest organ donor, his gift of a liver allowing his generous legacy to live on.

Did you know that almost 50% of deceased organ donors are over 55? Don't rule yourself out to give the gift of life. Generosity is ageless! 💙💚

Eric Fontaine's 13th Angelversary Memorial Blood Drive 💙

This is the 13th annual blood drive hosted by Eric's mom Vicki, in his memory. Thank you to all donors who came out to ConnectLife's Southgate Blood Donation Center to donate and support this blood drive.

Blood donor eligibility can feel confusing, there’s a lot of info! Here’s a quick guide:

🩸Be in good health, bring your ID, and be honest on the questionnaire.
🩸Recent tattoos or piercings? Waiting period is 3 months from the date of tattoo/piercing – including permanent makeup and microblading.
🩸Travel to certain regions may require a brief wait due to malaria risk.
🩸Pregnancy: wait until after pregnancy and a postpartum recovery period (6 weeks).
🩸Medications: Most are fine. Aspirin is acceptable for whole blood donations. Platelet donors must wait 3 full days after last dose of Aspirin.
🩸Low iron is a common reason for temporary deferral. Eat iron-rich foods 24 hours before you donate!
🩸LGBTQ+ donors: ConnectLife follows Individual Donor Assessment screening. This change prioritizes the safety of the nation’s blood supply while welcoming potential new donors.
