• Cough or sneeze into your arm or shoulder; or, use a tissue and wash your hands afterward
• Clean surfaces and objects that are touched often.
• Make a habit of NOT touching your face.
• Avoid close contact with people who are ill. If they look sick, they are sick.
• And if you or your child is sick, stay home from work or school.

When you are sick and go into work, you are putting your coworkers, clients, customers and the general public at risk for an illness that could be very harmful to them or someone in their family. For any communicable respiratory disease, even if your symptoms are relatively mild, you can pass that disease to someone who is very young, elderly, or living with a chronic illness that puts them at risk for more severe illness. Please, don’t take that chance with someone else’s health.

On November 8th, 1972 Lieutenant Henry Hoffman Jr. Of Engine Co. 21 Died in the Line of Duty.

Engine 21 was Operating at a working fire at 169 Glenwood Ave. in the early morning hours. Lieutenant Hoffman was directing his crew from the second floor porch after they were forced from the structure shortly after arrival. While operating on the porch, a change in wind direction completely enveloped the crew in dense black smoke. When the smoke cleared it was noticed that Lieutenant Hoffman had collapsed in the porch roof.

Members of Hook & Ladder 6 rescued the ailing Lieutenant quickly and he was rushed to Buffalo General Hospital. Despite exhaustive efforts of Firefighters and Doctors alike, Lieutenant Hoffman was pronounced Deceased a short time after arrival at the hospital.

This was the third fire Engine 21 responded to that night, along with the many responses to malicious pulls of street boxes, a usual night for the busy Company.

Lieutenant Hoffman was 46 years old and a 14 year veteran of the Buffalo Fire Department. He spent many years as a Firefighter at Engine 33 before his recent promotion to Lieutenant.

He was survived by his wife, three children and two grandchildren.

Lieutenant Hoffman was a Navy Veteran, and a member of the Buffalo Fire Department Officer's Association.

Here is Engine Co.21 with their 1971 Ward LaFrance 1250 gpm pumper with it's command tower. The door emblem was adopted as a shoulder patch in 1976 these Wards were some of the first rigs to get the decal on the door.
All of the 1971 Ward LaFrance pumpers had them mounted on a metal plate and were attached with screws. The decal on the left was from one of the Wards.
The decal on the right is the latest version which resembles an anime theme.
The Ward LaFrance pumpers had a big boost in sales when Engine Co. 51 on Emergency recieved one as a new pumper replacing the Crown pumper on the TV series. Buffalo had six of these three with command towers and three without. 👨‍🚒🔥🚒🚒🚒🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
