Thank you Greater Tyler Association of REALTORS® for hosting the annual First Responder Dinner last night.

Law enforcement, Emergency Medical Service and Firefighters from across the cities and counties around Tyler, Texas appreciate the opportunity to all gather and interact with our sisters and brothers, and the members of GTAR.

The gratitude of the realtors, builders, and residential construction suppliers was evident and impactful for all of us in attendance.

After an active week of wildland fires, Smith County has issued a Burn Ban. Last week, Cherokee County issued a burn ban.

Now the areas covered by the Bullard Fire Department in Smith and Cherokee Counties are covered by a burn ban.

OUTDOOR WELDING, CUTTING, AND BURNING OF ANYTHING OTHER THAN COOKING ARE PROHIBITED.

Burning of trash (open pit, in a barrel or other container), agricultural land (prescribed burns), and land clearing operations are prohibited.

We appreciate your help in eliminating all open burning during this extreme fire danger period. Report any open burning immediately to 9-1-1 or the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office at 903-590-2655.

Cherokee County, Texas
Effective 08/06/2026 until cancelled

Judge Chris Davis has issued a burn ban for Cherokee County.

All open/controlled burning is prohibited. In all cases where open/controlled burning is discovered, law enforcement will be requested to investigate and issue a citation if they deem appropriate.

As part of our ongoing training of Texas Commission on Fire Protection certified structural firefighters your volunteers participate in live fire exercises.

In conjunction with Smith County Emergency Services District 2, Winona Volunteer Fire Department, and Whitehouse Volunteer Fire Department we spent the morning practicing hose attack skills and tactics for propane emergencies.

We value our partnership with the other departments and their support to keep Bullard protected.

THANK YOU to our community, corporate and individual donors, and Fire Department Assistance - Texas A&M Forest Service.

Your Bullard Volunteer Fire Department performed a service delivery needs assessment last year. Our top priority was specifically to increase our wildland firefighting capability.

Through the Texas A&M Forest Service we have trained and certified an additional nine basic, and one intermediate type wildland firefighters.

In addition we have purchased a wildland firefighting apparatus that includes:
-Tow vehicle
-Equipment trailer
-UTV with wildland firefighting skid
-Track loader
-FYREBX wildland firefighting skid
-Wildland fire hand tools

This is a first for east Texas to have an apparatus with all of these capabilities.

The track loader with FYREBX can operate in tight spaces where larger wildland dozers have to knock down trees. In addition to increased mobility the FYREBX increases firefighter safety. The operator, from the safety of the enclosed cab can cut fire line and apply water to extinguish burning material.

This apparatus is stationed in downtown Bullard. Through our contracts with Smith County Emergency Services District 2 and Cherokee County this apparatus will be available to assist outside of our primary service area.

We are continuously seeking to add members. We have roles to fit a broad range of of personnel including support, firefighters, emergency medical, and apparatus operators. If you’re interested in joining or donating please visit www.BullardVFD.org
