Bullhead City School District #15

Bullhead City School District #15 It is the goal of the Bullhead City School District to provide quality services that meet the individual needs of its student population.

This and all of our school online sites are family-friendly. Please follow content rules and terms of service. The Bullhead City School district was founded in 1948, with the building of a one room, now known as the "Little Red School House." The district now includes six schools: three elementary, one middle, one junior high and one pre-kindergarten. Our modern facilities serve several thousand s

tudents, pre-kindergarten through eighth grades. Our basic geographic service area is the City of Bullhead Arizona and our land mass area is approximately 115 square miles. Principals, teachers and instructional coaches work collaboratively with parents and students to establish procedures that enhance learning and contribute to a positive school climate. Our district's well-trained staff provides an array of services through traditional means, special services and alternative programs.

Members of the BCSD governing board will attend the annual delegate assembly and law conference of the Arizona School Board Association. A quorum is possible. The meetings will be held September 9 - 11 in Scottsdale. No binding action can be taken by BCSD board members; those present will report back to the full board at its next meeting.

Because of a scheduling conflict, BCSD's September 10 board meeting has been moved to Monday, September 14, as previously announced. REMINDER -
FREE BCSD PARENTVUE WORKSHOP TONIGHT!

Knowing how to access a child’s grades and assignments, or being able to communicate with a teacher, are important tools for parents. The Bullhead City School District (BCSD) will hold a free workshop tonight for parents to understand how to use ParentVue, the District’s online portal with those capabilities.

The workshop begins at 6:00 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. at BCSD’s District Office, 1004 Hancock Road. Members of BCSD’s technology staff will be available to help parents set up or troubleshoot their logins and access before training begins. Parents may bring their own laptops or mobile devices; a limited number of district computers will also be available that evening.
ID will be required for password resets or access codes.

The training will be livestreamed and available for replay on demand for those looking for information but who don’t need hands-on assistance, or who are unable to attend in person. The link will be https://youtube.com/live/MbtH7csxuE0

No advance event registration is necessary for either the event or the livestream.

Synergy is the platform used by students, parents and employees, for information management, registration and other tasks. ParentVue is a Synergy portal that gives parents and students access to grades, assignments, attendance, and communication with teachers. For example, a student’s absence can be reported via ParentVue rather than calling a school office.

A new ParentVue link for BCSD was activated in 2023, along with both Apple and Android apps. Only one account is necessary for parents with students in more than one BCSD school. However, parents with students in both BCSD and the Colorado River Union High School District need to log in separately, as those student accounts are no longer linked.

ParentVue training will be conducted by Northern Arizona University’s Educational Technology Consortium.

REMINDER: PAST-DUE PROOF OF RESIDENCY
WITHIN BCSD BOUNDARIES DUE BY MONDAY

BCSD parents and guardians are reminded that proof of residency within the District’s boundaries must be turned in by Monday, August 31. Families whose information has been incomplete have already been notified multiple times and should be prepared to provide the accepted documents at their child’s school office by the close of business Monday; this is not a last-minute request.

Under Arizona law, students without proper proof of residency within the District could be unenrolled from school. Exceptions are those who already have approved open enrollment status from a neighboring District, or those legally homeless under the federal McKinney-Vento Act.

Acceptable forms of proof of an address within BCSD include recent utility bills (within the last 30 days), housing agreement (rent, mortgage, etc.), and government documents. Families sharing a residence may also provide a notarized shared statement of living with another person accompanied by proof of residence for that person.
Note that BCSD school offices are closed Friday.

Despite social media posts to the contrary, EVERY bus currently in the BCSD fleet has air conditioning. Units are checked before each run during hot weather. If a unit isn’t working, the bus is pulled from service for repairs.

Frequent door opening on routes makes it difficult to keep cool air in a bus. Add to that large windows on all four sides and dozens of kids. Sometimes children open the windows, thinking it’ll help cool the bus. It has the opposite effect. Imagine running your home or car AC on full blast when it’s 100+ degrees outside, but opening the windows. It’s the same effect.

NEW BCSD “PARENT ENGAGEMENT PARTNERSHIP”
OPEN FOR COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS

The Bullhead City School District is inviting parents, family members and community representatives to help strengthen family engagement, two-way communication and BCSD academics through two volunteer advisory committees that will meet quarterly during the school year. One is a family engagement committee; the other is BCSD’s local integrated action plan (LIAP) committee.
Together, they are part of BCSD’s “Parent Engagement Partnership,” or PEP, designed to bring diverse voices and varying perspectives to help guide district decisions, foster strong community partnerships and support student success.

“It’s pretty simple,” said Jennifer Lott, BCSD’s director of educational services. “We’re asking our parents, guardians and BCSD stakeholders whether they have an hour to help us improve our partnership with them. The goal is to help us improve communication with and from our families.”

The family engagement committee will focus largely on new opportunities for communication, including solutions to perceived or real barriers. LIAP participants will review BCSD’s role as a Title I district – funding for schools with a high poverty rate. That committee will also review BCSD’s benchmark testing data and discuss goals and action steps for the next school year.

Meetings will be available both in person and virtually. Volunteers do not have to attend every meeting. Those interested in participating may fill out a survey at https://forms.gle/TdHaa2ZPThMScKy4A . They may also email a statement of interest, along with contact information, to [email protected], with “Committee” in the subject line.

Results and summaries will be posted on the district’s website, www.bcsd15.org, as well as shared publicly during BCSD governing board meetings.

The family engagement committee is tentatively scheduled to meet in September, October, February and April. The LIAP committee will hold meetings in September, November, February and April. Parents and community members may volunteer for more than one committee.
