We want to take a minute to share that Acacia is so proud of our MA Jonathan Tellez, as he embarks on a new journey within orthopedics! With today being his last day in clinic, we are sad to see him go (even shed some tears) but so happy for the opportunity that awaits! He has played a vital role in the care we provide and we are honored to have been a part of his story. We asked Jonathan to share his testimony and we couldn't wait to share his story with you.
"My journey in healthcare started much earlier than I ever realized. When I was younger, my mom would always keep me home from school just so I could come to the clinic and translate for her lol. At the time, I definitely didn’t think of it as the beginning of my healthcare career. As being a 12-13 year old, I just thought about where we were going to eat afterwards haha! I remember seeing each providers reaction as they walked in the room giving me a questioning look when I said “I’m here to translate” probably thinking that I wouldn’t know what diabetes meant or high cholesterol, but with each visit and seeing how well my mom was doing in with her health... it gave me a boost of confidence.
I always thought after high school I was going to follow my dads footsteps and work in construction. But looking back now , those moments were kinda shaping me in ways I couldn’t understand at the time.
As a young as i was, I was learning how important communication, compassion, and simply being there for someone could be. Through the years of me being my mom’s caregiver and teaching her how each medication worked and showing her things she should stay away from to keep her health in a stable condition... I didn’t know it then, but those days at the clinic were planting the first seeds of what would eventually become my new career interest in healthcare.
Years later, after I graduated high school and I followed up with trade school, I found myself back at Acacia, this time as a certified Medical Assistant! It felt almost full-circle. The kid who used to get pulled out of school to translate was now working alongside the very people who had inspired me to pursue healthcare in the first place.
As I leave this home to pursue a new experience, I will always cherish this office and what it stands for. All the amazing providers that I worked with teaching me new things, cheering me on to become a nurse, (which I hope I do accomplish) all the most amazing patients whom I will miss dearly who’ve I shared the highs and lows of my life. Me watching them improve with their health journey, making me feel like everything I do is worth it! This is not a full goodbye (hopefully)... I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped with my journey!
Sincerely Jonathan
