Shelter option!

The Salvation Army Inclement Weather Shelter will open today beginning at 5pm and will allow individuals to remain until Tuesday. They also have an overflow shelter through Caritas House, and it is located at the same site.

The Salvation Army shelter serves individuals ages 18 and older. Families are accommodated in a separate area, though still within the same location. Individuals are encouraged to arrive by 5pm if they do not anticipate having other shelter resources as the shelter does fill quickly, even with the overflow option available.

The Salvation Army and Caritas House can provide:
Heated indoor space for overnight rest and safety
Hot meals, beverages and snacks
Restrooms and sleeping areas
Staff support and cold weather safety information
Service dogs are welcome

Individuals do not have to be a Richmond resident to come to the shelter. Transportation is not provided.

Contact information: (804) 653-5706
Overflow through Caritas House: (804) 972-0813
Location: 1900 Chamberlayne Ave, Richmond, Virginia 23222

Should Louisa County open a shelter locally, information will be sent through Louisa County Alerts. https://www.louisacounty.gov/2601/Alerts-Notifications

❄️ Winter Storm Safety Check-In ❄️

Hey friends!!! With this crazy winter storm moving through, we just want to take a minute to help everyone stay warm and safe.

When the power goes out, we know folks turn to alternative heat sources like fireplaces, wood stoves, heaters, lamps, and generators. Please use extra caution!!

🔥 If you’re using a wood-burning stove, propane, or kerosene heater, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use them inky as intended. Keep them at least 3 feet away from anything that can catch fire and never ever leave them unattended.

🚫 Please don’t use grills, camp stoves, or open flames indoors — even in garages or porches. The risk of fire and co2 exposure is extremely high! We see too many very dangerous situations during storms, and we want everyone to stay safe!

🧣 It’s also a good idea to have some emergency supplies on hand, like blankets, flashlights, batteries, food, and water — especially if the power stays out longer than expected.

⚠️ A few quick reminders:
• Generators should always be used outside, away from doors and windows.
• Use flashlights instead of candles if possible.
• Make sure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order.

We’re proud to serve this community and want everyone to come through the storm safe and sound. Please check on neighbors who may need help, and don’t hesitate to call if something doesn’t feel right.

🚒 If you have an emergency, call 911. Stay safe out there!!

As 2025 is coming to a close, we’ve been reflecting on what an incredible community we serve and are suported by. Every call we answer, every late-night alarm we roll out for, and every cup of Fire Dept. Coffee we power through is fueled by your support.

Right now, the Bumpass Volunteer Fire Department page is at 2,696 followers—which already means the world to us. But we’d love to end the year with a big, meaningful milestone:

🎯 Our goal: 3,000 followers by December 31st!

Why does it matter? Because every post shared and page follow helps us:

> Share important safety updates with our neighbors

> Spread the word about super fun community events

> Reach more people during emergencies and share information

> And yes… feel just a little bit like local celebrities 😉

If you haven’t followed us yet, we’d be honored to earn that click. And if you’re already part of our online family, would you consider sharing this post or encouraging your friends and family to follow us? (We’ll happily welcome everyone—neighbors, coworkers, even that cousin who only shows up at holidays.)

🔥 Your support helps us give back to as many people as we can—because serving this community is what we’re here for. Let’s hit 3,000 together!

❤️ 🚒 From all of us at the Bumpass Volunteer Fire Department: thank you for always standing behind us and supporting our work! 🚒 ❤️

THANK YOU!
