Officials say scammers are sending fake emails posing as Buncombe County employees and asking for payments.

⚠️Charter has experienced a fiber break in their equipment, which is preventing some landline calls from reaching the 911 Emergency Call Center. This outage affects only Charter landline users. All 911 Public Safety Communications lines and equipment remain fully operational. Charter wireless customers and anyone using other wireless carriers can still reach emergency services by texting 911. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.

More big storms could be in store for our area Tuesday night. Strong winds may bring down trees, limbs, and power lines, and localized flooding from heavy rain is possible. Remember: never drive through flooded roadways - it only takes 18-24 inches of fast-moving water to carry away most large SUVs, vans, and trucks. Buncombe County Emergency Management

A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible late this afternoon into this evening across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph will be the main threat, with the greatest concern across the NC mountains, foothills, and Piedmont.
