๐Ÿ“ข Certified Gas Kicker: Tech. Sgt. Nicholas Golden, 434th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, NCOIC of Flight Medicine.

Tech. Sgt. Golden has been described as the go-to Airman for guidance, mentorship, and support, and his leadership has referred to him as the living representation of the Air Forceโ€™s mission and standards.

Golden embodies these standards whether itโ€™s while serving on the Base Honor Guard, taking charge of awards and decorations for the squadron, where he successfully processed and awarded over 30 AMDS troops, or teaching critical life-saving skills.

As a Tactical Casualty Combat Care Tier III, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, Basic Life Saving, and Stop the Bleed instructor, he has trained not only medical troops, but over 50 civilian medics, law enforcement officers, and firefighters in the past year alone.

During a recent UTA, he stepped up on short notice to ensure that 13 Marines from a South Bend unit met critical medical readiness requirements so they could fulfill their mission. Within minutes of finishing their exams, he changed into his Blues for a Change of Command Honor Guard detail and then jumped right back into action to provide lifesaving TCCC training to security forces!

Off base, his dedication continues. He has volunteered over 70 hours in his local community in the last year.

His leadership said he is always the first to step up, get involved, and leave things better than he found them.

During the May UTA, the 49th Aerial Port Squadron (APS) continued a solemn Air Force tradition by hosting the annual Port Dawg Memorial Run. This event finds its roots at Kadena Air Base, where it was established in 2013 to commemorate the life of Tech. Sgt. Curtiz Eccleston following his tragic death in 2011. Over the last decade, the run has expanded across the career field, serving as a unified moment for Aerial Port members to pay tribute to the legacy of those lost.

While the 49th APS was fortunate to have not lost members of its own this year, the squadron stood in formation to honor four fallen comrades from the wider "Port Dawg" community: Senior Airman Mario Ceja, Senior Airman Aeron Olson, Tech. Sgt. Jasmine Allen, and Staff Sgt. Gregory Peterson. The ceremony emphasized that regardless of unit or location, the bond within the logistics career field remains unbroken.

The event was marked by a poignant moment of connection as the family of Senior Airman Aeron Olson joined the squadron for the memorial. His nephew, Keenan, was given the honor of leading the start of the run, symbolizing the enduring impact these Airmen leave on both their families and their fellow service members.
