We would like to thank all of the businesses and organizations that chip in to make the Firefighters picnic happen. The amount of time, money, and planning is often overlooked.

Despite the nasty weather we were still able to get the day in Celebrating 250!

This Saturday is shaping up to be a great day for the Bunker Hill Fire Department and our community!
The day begins with the Annual Independence Day Parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by the BHFD Firemen's Picnic at the Bunker Hill Reservoir (located at the end of New Lake Road).
There will be something for everyone to enjoy, including:
• Live music
• Local vendors
• Bounce houses
• Cold beer
• Our nearly famous catfish fritters
As the sun goes down, join us for our annual fireworks display. This year's show is going to be bigger than ever! We typically launch one "war wagon" full of fireworks—but this year, we're bringing two. It's a show you won't want to miss!
Bring your family, invite your friends, and spend the day celebrating with us. We look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!

This morning, firefighters from both Bunker Hill Fire Protection District stations were honored to welcome the participants of the 2026 Cycle Across Illinois ride as they passed through our community. The cyclists are traveling from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) to Chicago in honor of our nation's fallen law enforcement officers. Their journey serves as a meaningful tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who gave their lives in the line of duty. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to support these riders and wish them a safe journey as they continue their ride across Illinois.

Today, we recognize and thank Paul Davis for more than 22 years of dedicated service to the Bunker Hill Fire Protection District as he begins his well-earned retirement from the fire service.
For over two decades, Paul has answered the call when our community needed him. His commitment, knowledge, and willingness to serve have made a lasting impact on our department and the citizens we protect. Through countless emergency responses, training hours, and community events, Paul has exemplified what it means to be a volunteer firefighter.
On behalf of the members of the Bunker Hill Fire Protection District, we extend our sincere gratitude for his years of service and dedication. While we will miss having him around the station, we are excited for him as he begins this next chapter of life.
Please join us in congratulating Paul Davis on his retirement and thanking him for 22 years of selfless service to our community.

The Bunker Hill Fire Protection District is proud to announce that we have been awarded a Small Equipment Grant through the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.
These grant funds will be used to purchase new battery-powered extrication equipment for Station 2 in Shipman. This equipment will enhance our ability to respond to vehicle accidents and rescue emergencies by providing firefighters with faster, more reliable tools to safely remove victims from damaged vehicles.
The addition of modern battery-powered cutters, spreaders, and rescue equipment will improve operational efficiency, reduce setup time, and increase the level of service we provide to the residents and visitors of our district.
We would like to thank the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office for its continued support of the fire service and its commitment to helping departments obtain the equipment necessary to protect their communities.
This investment represents another step forward in ensuring our firefighters have the tools they need to serve the community safely and effectively

This weekend, 6 members of the Bunker Hill Fire Protection District attended the Annual Fire College Training Weekend at the Illinois Fire Service Institute in Champaign.
Our firefighters participated in a variety of hands-on and classroom-based courses designed to enhance their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and stay current with the latest fire service practices. Continuous training is essential to providing the highest level of service and safety to our community.
We are proud of the dedication our firefighters demonstrate by volunteering their time to further their education and improve their capabilities. Thank you to the Illinois Fire Service Institute for providing outstanding training opportunities and to our firefighters for their commitment to excellence.
