I would like to personally thank each and every individual who came out this evening to help search for this little girl.

Tonight was a true example of what can be accomplished when a community comes together for one common goal.

To every civilian, law enforcement officer, EMT, search and rescue member, K-9 handler, drone operator, and every other individual who played a part in tonight’s search, THANK YOU!

This was a combined effort on so many different fronts, and everyone involved did an outstanding job. Without the dedication, teamwork, and willingness of so many people to drop what they were doing and come together, the outcome could have been much different.

I am extremely thankful to report that this little girl is home safe, warm, and injury-free!

Tonight showed the true strength of our community. When one of our own needs help, we come together, put everything else aside, and do whatever it takes to bring them home.

I am proud to have been a part of this effort and even prouder of every person who stepped up to help.

Rest in peace, Deputy Brian “Barney” Fox. You were a great man with a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. 49 years just wasn’t nearly enough. Someone up there must have needed you in a mighty big way. You touched a lot of lives, and you’ll never be forgotten. Fly high, my friend. Until we meet again.

Today, our community mourns the heartbreaking loss of one of the Ellington firefighters whose life was tragically taken in a motor vehicle crash.

Firefighters dedicate their lives to answering the call when others are in need. They serve with courage, compassion, and a willingness to put others before themselves. The loss of any first responder is felt far beyond one department; it is felt throughout the entire public safety family and the community they served.

We extend our deepest condolences to the firefighter’s family, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone affected by this tragic loss. May they find strength in one another during the difficult days ahead.

Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your dedication to your community. Your watch has ended, but your service and memory will never be forgotten.

UPDATE: SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to report that Peter Taylor has been taken into custody.

Following an approximately 14-hour operation, deputies successfully located Taylor and took him into custody near the original incident scene.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to the many law enforcement officers and partner agencies who assisted throughout this operation. We also thank the citizens of Carter County for their patience, cooperation, and the information provided during the investigation.

At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.

As always, we ask the public to allow the investigation and judicial process to proceed. Additional information will be released when appropriate.

Thank you for helping us keep Carter County safe.

I would like to extend my gratitude for their donation and emphasize the importance of prioritizing safety while performing our duties. It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of one of our own, Reserve Deputy Tyler “Ty” Beasley, Badge #5509.

Ty was more than just a part-time reserve deputy—he was a dedicated public servant, a teammate, and a friend. He wore his badge with pride and served his community with integrity, compassion, and a willingness to step up whenever he was needed. His commitment did not go unnoticed, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ty’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your hearts as we remember and honor his service and the impact he made on our department and community.
