Dig into the amazing world of gardens 🌱 and insects 🐝 at this fun, hands-on Summer Reading Program! Participants will learn about the different insects found in gardens, including the helpful “good insects” that help plants grow and the “bad insects” that can harm them. 🦋 Discover the important role bees, butterflies, and other insects play in helping our gardens thrive.

Participants will also create a fun insect-themed craft and take home special seeds to plant that will attract bees and butterflies to their own gardens.

Start the summer off with a bang! Families can enjoy free, child-friendly activities and hands-on fun while getting signed up for the Summer Reading Program with library staff. We can’t wait to kick off an amazing summer of reading with you! ☀️📖

Get ready for a prehistoric crafting adventure! Join us for Perler-saurus, a hands-on creative program where we’ll bring dinosaurs to life—one bead at a time. Using colorful Perler beads and heat-fused designs, participants can craft their favorite dinos or invent entirely new prehistoric creatures.

All materials are provided—just bring your dino-sized creativity!

A friendly reminder that Anderson Creek Public Library will be closed from Saturday, May 23 to Friday, May 29. We will reopen on Saturday, May 30 with Summer Hours.

Tuesday: 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Friday: Closed
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Please note, we will continue to regularly check the book drop, but it might take a few days for books from the Anderson Creek book drop to be checked in. If you have any questions, please contact the Main Library at (910) 893-3446.

The Harnett County Board of Commissioners has vacancies on the following board:

Harnett County Library Board of Trustees
– Boone Trail Community Representative
– Anderson Creek Community Representative
– Dunn Community Representative

▶ Requirements
The Boone Trail representative must reside in the Boone Trail community. The Anderson Creek representative must reside in the Anderson Creek community. The Dunn representative must reside in the Dunn community.

▶ Function of Board
The Harnett County Library Board of Trustees is an advisory board to the Library. The Board makes recommendations on policy to local government and acts as a liaison between the library, local government, and the community. The Board promotes library service in general and assists in the development of the County Library System and library service throughout Harnett County.

The Board cooperates with and supports the programs of the Harnett County Library System, the North Carolina Library Association, and the North Carolina State Library, and helps unify library action at all levels in North Carolina. The Board provides an effective means of influencing local support for passage of adequate library legislation and promotes complete use of the library facilities and resources.

▶ Meetings
The Board meets quarterly on the fourth Wednesday of January, April, July, and October.

✍️ County citizens wishing to be considered may submit an application to the County Manager’s office at 455 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, NC or fill out an application online at https://nc.harnettlibrary.org/hcpl-board. Please submit an application by Monday, May 25, 2026.
