- There has not been a property tax revaluation since 2022. The Town of Hector has seen an increase in population and development. This means the tax burden to run Hector is no longer accurate or fairly distributed across the Town's residents.
- Revaluation does not automatically mean your property taxes will go up. Here is more info: https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/learn/proptax.htm
-Every attempt is made annually to keep the Town Budget under the tax cap that is set by New York State.
- The Annual Budget process for the Town of Hector that happens each fall is open to the public, recorded and posted on www.hectorny.us/
- The budget process is a line-by-line attempt to predict the following year's costs to run the Town (maintaining roads, labor, insurance, materials, etc).
- The Town, like individuals, has no control over the increases in goods and services, nor unforeseen price increases due to natural disasters, wars or Federal/State Policy changes.
- Hector has a population of about 5000 people and 150 miles of maintained roads, the single biggest budgetary expense.
