Mark your calendars! The 5th Annual Eastern NC Niche Ag Conference is coming up on November 14th.

For the first time, NC Cooperative Extension is partnering with the University of Mount Olive to host the conference at the UMO Student Farm!

This full-day event will feature six tracks covering a variety of topics, including Irrigation, Permaculture, Integrated Pest Management, Value-Added Agriculture, Herbs & Cut Flowers, and Animal Production. More than 20 professionals from NC Cooperative Extension, NC A&T State University, and NC State University will share their expertise on a wide range of topics relevant to small-scale growers and producers.

Sessions will include topics such as hydroponic production, blackberry production, hands-on poultry processing, and much more!

Get your youth together, grab a phone, and get creative! North Carolina Farm Bureau is celebrating National Farm Safety & Health Week with a Safety Video Contest — and your FFA Chapter or 4-H Club could win $500!

This year’s theme is Cancer Prevention in Agriculture.

They are challenging FFA Chapters and 4-H Clubs across North Carolina to create a 30-second, TikTok-style safety video showing how farmers, farm families, and agricultural workers can reduce their risk of cancer.

The deadline to submit videos is September 18, 2026.

Interim County Extension Director, Tiffanee Boone, instructed a hands-on learning activity for a few 4-Hers and homeschool youth on Monday afternoon. The youth brought in goat and horse f***l specimens and Tiffanee demonstrated the modified McMaster egg counting technique for calculating parasite eggs per gram in a f***s sample. By monitoring egg counts, the youth can determine when it is appropriate to deworm their livestock in order to reduce contamination in pastures and barns.

Scientists Identify ‘Mystery Beetle’ Attacking Blueberry Farms

A new study from NC State University researchers has identified destructive beetles inhabiting North Carolina blueberry fields as Prionus imbricornus, a species of longhorn beetle.
