“Proudly we serve”

The Burgaw Fire Department is tasked with fire prevention and suppression duties throughout the town limits of Burgaw, NC and the Pender Central Fire District. Burgaw Fire Department operates from one station located at 109 N Walker Street, which houses three engines, one tanker, one ladder truck, one brush truck and one inspection vehicle. Staff includes: one full time Fire Administrator/Marshal and up to three part-time firefighters from 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday. Burgaw Fire Department still relies heavily on volunteer firefighters in the area and there are up to 40 volunteers associated with the fire department. These personnel are charged with the responsibility of providing fire protection to both the residents and visitors of the Burgaw area. Other non-suppression activities include; fire inspections, fire and life safety plans review, occupancy pre-fire plans, community education programs, vehicle maintenance, equipment maintenance, hydrant maintenance and training. These activities will engage fire department personnel with the community, which assists the department in achieving its mission and meeting its goals. 🚒 PROUDLY WE SERVE!

Sometimes, serving others means going above and beyond the call of duty — and A Shift recently did just that!

A big shoutout to Capt. Wheeler, FF Hawkins, and Engineer Willingmyre for stepping up to assist the Deputy Fire Chief of the Parris Island Military Base when he experienced mechanical issues with his government vehicle. Our crew didn't just offer tools; they rolled up their sleeves and helped make the necessary repairs to get him back on the road! 🔧🛠️

Their willingness to lend a helping hand made a lasting impression. The Deputy Fire Chief took the time to write to Chief Prevatte to recognize the crew's actions and personally thank them with a challenge coin.

🏅 More than a token of appreciation, a challenge coin symbolizes honor, respect, camaraderie, and recognition of service above and beyond expectations. Receiving one is a meaningful acknowledgment that a person's actions have made a difference.

This is what our motto, “Proudly We Serve,” is all about. Whether responding to an emergency, supporting a fellow first responder, or helping someone in need, service doesn't stop when the call ends, and it doesn't stop at the fire station doors.

👏 Join us in recognizing Capt. Wheeler, FF Hawkins, and Engineer Willingmyre for representing Burgaw Fire Department with professionalism, teamwork, and a genuine willingness to serve others!

🚒❤️ What an amazing Fire Prevention Week!

From visiting our friends at C. F. Pope Elementary School , community events, seeing our community engage with our fire safety campaigns on social media, and wrapping up the week at Pender High School Homecoming football game, we’ve been reminded just how blessed we are to serve this community!

As we close out the week, remember: Home fire safety matters for everyone!, Charge lithium-ion devices safely, and always slow down and drive safely. Fire safety doesn’t end when the week does!

Thank you, Burgaw and Pender County, for helping us keep our community safe. We’re blessed to serve you! 🙏🚒❤️

🛏️📱 SOFT SURFACE? HARD PASS.

Where do you charge your phone?

On the bed?
On the couch?
Under a pillow?

It's time to change that habit.

Batteries and chargers produce heat during normal operation. Soft surfaces can trap that heat and restrict airflow.

Instead, charge on a:

✅ Table
✅ Desk
✅ Countertop
✅ Other hard, flat surface

Beds and couches are for relaxing—not charging.

🔋 Charge into Fire Safety™.

DON'T BE THE FRIEND WHO… 👀

…has everybody hyped for Homecoming but forgets to make a plan for the ride home. 😂

The fits are ready.
The crew is ready.
The BIG GAME is calling. 🏈🔥

So let's make some memories, bring the energy, and look out for our people along the way.

🚗 Buckle up.
📱 Phone down.
👊 Make sure everybody gets home.

Tag your Friday night crew!👇

Let's pack those stands, Pender! We'll see you at the BIG GAME! 🏈

😂 Parents, this one's for your teens!

We're trying to keep safe driving in their feed, in their group chats, and hopefully in their decision-making.

Share it, tag your teen, and remind them we want to see them at the BIG GAME—and home safely afterward! 🏈

✈️🔋 ON A FLIGHT? KEEP IT IN SIGHT.

Traveling with rechargeable devices?

If you're charging a device on a plane, keep it where you can see it.

If your device becomes unusually hot, starts to swell, smells strange, smokes, or makes unusual sounds:

🚨 Tell a flight attendant immediately.

And remember, never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on an airplane.

When it comes to battery safety, don't charge it and forget it.

👀 Keep it in sight.
