Learn how to spin wool into yarn using a drop spindle tool while you learn about the practice of handspinning wool and the history of fiber arts in the United States.

We have two dates for this program at the Main Library in Burgaw: Wednesday, June 24 at 4 PM and Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 AM.

This is a free program with all supplies provided!
Ages 12+, registration required.

We’re excited to officially kick off our Summer Story Time series with the Hampstead Branch of the Pender County Library!

Our Junior Interns had a wonderful time today teaching the community about sea turtles and sharing simple ways we can all help protect them.

The 23rd Annual Blueberry Festival is coming up soon and the Dallas Herring Library Annex has some great resources on the history of both the festival and how the blueberry came to be such a big deal for Pender County.

If you’re interested in the more detailed history of the blueberry and Pender County, stop by to browse the book Atkinson Blueberry Land by Glendal L. Jenkins – we've shared a few pages from it in this post.

Additionally, we’ve got several articles about both the festival itself and Pender County’s connection to blueberries including a feature article from Our State magazine and a piece on the 2nd Annual Blueberry Festival from the Pender Post.

The Dallas Herring Library Annex is located at 108 S. Cowan Street in Burgaw (across the street from the Main Library) and is open 10-5 Thursday and Friday and 10-2 on Saturday, and available by appointment 10-5 Monday through Wednesday.

Join us at the Main Library in Burgaw tomorrow, June 10, to learn a historical craft by making your own paper from recycled materials.

The program runs from 4:30-6:00 PM. You can stay the whole time or drop-in, but give yourself at least 30 minutes. Crafty kids are welcome, but please be prepared to assist anyone under 10.

All ages can participate and all types of reading counts - audiobooks, e-books, magazines, family read aloud!
