⚡ Four County’s very own First Class Lineworker Brendan Bolio represented Four County EMC at the 2025 Pole Top Rescue competition held yesterday at Nash Community College!

This statewide event brings together electric cooperative lineworkers from across North Carolina to test the lifesaving skills that could mean the difference between life and death in the field. Each competitor must safely climb a 20-foot pole, rescue a 105-pound mannequin simulating an injured coworker, and begin CPR—all in full climbing gear and under strict time limits.

Brendan completed the rescue with a highly respectable time of 2 minutes and 30 seconds, demonstrating the training, focus, and commitment to safety that define our crews. While we hope our lineworkers never face such an emergency, events like these ensure they’re always ready to respond quickly and safely when seconds count.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the skills Brendan displayed at the competition,” said Scott Cook, Four County EMC Vice President of Operations, who attended the event. “It was inspiring to be in the company of so many accomplished lineworkers who represent the best of our state’s electric cooperatives.”

👏 Join us in congratulating Brendan for representing Four County EMC with excellence and reminding us what dedication to safety truly looks like. And special thanks to the North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives for coordinating this outstanding event.

MST Rebar Inc. is investing $15 million in real estate, machinery, and equipment to locate and renovate 56,000-sqft currently vacant manufacturing facility in the Bladenboro Industrial Park. Four County EMC originally financed this building for the Bladen County Committee 100 which was initially built as the first industrial shell building in Bladen County.

This new fiberglass rebar manufacturing facility is expected to bring 83 full-time jobs and new opportunities for local workers. The new positions include apprentice machinists and inspectors, as well as engineers. Although wages will vary, the average annual salary for the new positions will be $58,000, which exceeds the Bladen County average wage of $46,867. These new jobs could potentially create an annual payroll impact of more than $4.5 million for the region. Source: commerce.nc.gov

Every October, the town of Bladenboro comes alive for Beast Fest, a celebration born from one of North Carolina’s most mysterious legends.

In the 1950s, tales of the “Beast of Bladenboro” sparked fear and fascination across the state. Decades later, the community turned that legend into something inspiring, creating a festival that brings thousands together, supports local businesses, and highlights the true spirit of rural resilience.

✨ Carolina Country recently featured this incredible hometown story in their article, “When Legends Roar, Communities Rise.”
Four County EMC is excited that this unique festival within our service territory has been featured in Carolina Country. We hope our members enjoy reading about Bladenboro’s story of community pride and plan to take part in the fun this weekend.

On a chilly winter night in 1953, much of North Carolina was enjoying the serenity and beauty the season had to offer — but the same can’t be said for one community. Whispers drifted through screen doors and down quiet dirt roads. The small southeastern town of Bladenboro was on edge. Strang...

“In 2024-25, we continued to build onto a very solid foundation,” said Steve Yost, President of NCSE. “N.C.’s Southeast opened the books on its first project 31 years ago, and since then we’ve helped bring 204 companies to this region, along with nearly $4.8 billion in announced investment and 20,490 new jobs.”
