Langeloth, PA – Friday, July 31, 2026 -- Langeloth Metallurgical Company (Langeloth) is proud to support the Smith Township / Slovan Volunteer Fire Department with a safety-focused contribution that will strengthen emergency response capabilities for accidents involving large commercial vehicles. The funding will enable our VFD to purchase an Interstate / Motorway Vehicle Stabilization Kit, vital equipment used to lift and stabilize commercial vehicles and improve safety for firefighters and community members during rescue operations. Per Tom Krenn, Fire Chief, “This is fantastic news! We really appreciate Langeloth funding the stabilization kit. This vital safety equipment will help provide safety to our firefighters and help protect people in our community. This equipment is critical for VFD operations to lift and stabilize any commercial vehicle. Our VFD covers Rt 18, Rt 50, Rt 22, and I-576, all of which are heavily traveled routes for commercial vehicles. The system has multi-use, as it is convertible for rope, confined space, trench, and collapse rescues.” From PA State Senator Camera Bartolotta, “I’m excited for Smith Township VFD, Langeloth, and the community. The VFDs play such a strong role to support our communities. Langeloth is a key part of our US industrial base with its molybdenum and rhenium products.” From Michael Meighen, VP & GM Langeloth, “We’re excited to support the VFD and entire community. Langeloth has a culture of excellence, and this safety-focused contribution adds to that growing legacy.” Langeloth’s donation totals $40,661.

Slovan Fire Department along with Midway Fire Department had the opportunity to tour the new updated compressor station at the Energy Transfer site on Point Pleasant Road. All of the safety features were covered and discussed with the plant representatives. We would like to thank Energy Transfer for their continued training and support to help us to provide safety to our residence.

Thanks to an AFG Grant from the Federal Government, we were able to purchase this "AutoPulse NXT" from Zoll. This low profile light weight resuscitation system will provide us the ability to administer high quality CPR with limited manpower in the event of sudden cardiac arrest. The cost of this unit was $32,000.00. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Slovan Volunteer Fire Department, please stop by the station or call 724-947-3488 for an application.
