🚨 DUI Pursuit Leads to Arrest 🚨
Last night, around 10:00 PM, a Burien deputy on routine patrol observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Ambaum Blvd SW at a high rate of speed. The posted speed limit in the area is 35 mph, but the vehicle was estimated to be traveling at 50 mph.
As the deputy followed, they observed the driver swerving and unable to maintain lane control. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver initially complied by pulling over. However, as the deputy began to exit their patrol vehicle, the driver suddenly fled the scene in their vehicle.
Due to the driver’s dangerous behavior and suspicion of DUI, a pursuit was initiated. To safely bring the situation to an end and prevent further risk to the public, the deputy performed a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique), a legal intervention used to stop fleeing vehicles.
The driver was successfully stopped and detained. Following the arrest, deputies conducted a DUI investigation. Based on the totality of the circumstances—including the driving behavior, failure to comply, and signs of impairment—probable cause was established to believe the driver was under the influence. When a driver is unable or unwilling to provide a voluntary breath sample, deputies can request a search warrant for a blood draw. This process ensures that evidence of impairment is collected lawfully and in accordance with constitutional protections.
A judge reviewed the facts of the case and approved the search warrant, allowing a blood sample to be obtained for toxicology testing to determine the presence of alcohol and/or drugs.
After the legal blood draw, the driver was transported to jail for DUI and other charges.
We are grateful for the deputy’s quick action in preventing a potentially serious incident. Please remember: impaired driving puts everyone at risk. Always plan ahead and drive responsibly.
