The new Unit Road director visited with me (Charlotte) this morning. We are back on track again to get the road patch that is needed. I have resubmitted the requests for all roads so hopefully they will get on it soon. There is always a delay when the folks change at the top.

Requests have been made for road patch.
The county workers are ready, willing, and able to patch the city part of our roads BUT ..
We have a new road engineer that just started and as I have dealt with in the past he wants a new Interlocal agreement with the City of Burke and the county.
Yes it is frustrating…. We are trying!
We are fully aware that every road has great need!
We will get back to the major overlays as our budget allows.

Here’s the latest on the upcoming winter weather for the Lufkin area.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 6:00 AM Friday through 12:00 PM Sunday. Expect this Watch to be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning later today/tomorrow morning.
An Extreme Cold Watch in effect from January 25, 06:00 PM CST until 12:00 PM Tuesday.
Event Details:
• Light rain has started to develop across the area and will become more widespread this afternoon. This will persist on and off through midday Saturday. A steadier and heavier wave of precipitation will set up overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Thunderstorms are also expected to develop overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Expect heavier amounts of precipitation during thunderstorms.
• Temperatures will become Subfreezing between noon and 4PM on Saturday and remain below freezing through Tuesday morning. There may be a brief period of at or slightly above freezing on Monday afternoon; however, it will be short lived before temperature drop below freezing again.
• Total rainfall accumulation will range between 1.5 – 2-inches.
• We’re still expecting significant icing potential, with total ice accumulations in the Lufkin area generally in the 0.25-to-0.50-inch range. Higher amounts are possible.
• As the system exits, a light dusting of snow Sunday morning is possible, but ice remains the primary concern.
• Monday and Tuesday morning temperatures are expected to drop to 7° - 10° F
Bottom line:
• The highest-impact window looks to be Saturday evening through Sunday morning, when we’ll have subfreezing temperatures combined with freezing rain and sleet. Some of the rain may be heavy at times, leading to very hazardous travel and possible power impacts.

Freezing rain chances are increasing for the weekend across the ArkLaTex. The region could see significant impacts including road closures and power outages.

Burn Ban
On Friday 11/21/25 the Angelina County Commissioners Court Extended the Current Burn Ban for an additional 90 days or until cancelled. Please refrain from all outdoor burning.
