There is growing confidence in an extended period of unseasonably warm weather starting late this weekend and continuing into the first week of September. Daily high temperatures in the 90s are likely across southern Indiana and central Kentucky, with heat index values reaching the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. Precipitation chances will also remain fairly low through most of the week, which could lead to the re-emergence of dry conditions across the area.

We wanted to provide this heads up given the relatively mild temperatures we've seen over the past several weeks.

A cold front will move southeast through southern Indiana and central Kentucky today. Along and ahead of this cold front, showers and storms will develop. A few storms may become strong to severe. Main hazards will be gusty to damaging winds and hail.

Main timing is 2pm to 8pm ET (1pm to 7pm CT).

Clear skies and light winds has allowed for dense valley fog to
develop. Patchy fog is also possible outside of the valley areas.
Visibilities may drop to a quarter of a mile at times. Slow down
in fog and use your low beam headlights when driving through areas
of fog.

A couple of rounds of thunderstorms will be possible later this evening, and then again overnight. A localized damaging wind threat could accompany either of these rounds of storms, however is a bit more likely with the later cluster. In addition, a localized flash flooding threat could develop, however storms are expected to move enough to limit any widespread concerns. Southern Kentucky will likely stay mostly dry, and the threat is much lower south of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways.
