(10)

Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

Mission: Service Above Self

Burleson Area Midday Rotary recently made a donation to ShelterBox USA to help families around the world rebuild their lives after losing everything to natural disaster or conflict.

The funds will be used to provide life-saving shelter and equipment to set up a household, which could include relief tents, tools to repair damaged buildings, as well as supplies such as solar lights, water purification, thermal blankets and cooking utensils. ShelterBox tailors to form of aid after each disaster based on assessments of the affected community’s needs.

Today was a full agenda!

The key speaker was our own Jerry Allen. He gave us a wonderful overview of the fantastic impact he and others with Rotary had on the Guatemala Service Trip. They had a hand on making school improvements and helping build skills with the younger population that will help them enter the workforce.

Thank you Jerry for doing such great work and bringing your amazing insight back with you.

Cara Ellison is the Community 4-H Club's manager. She joined us today along with some amazing young individuals who allowed our club a very in depth insight on what all they do. It was wonderful to hear from 4-H members Summer Kvalheim, Saylor Kvalheim, Payton Kvalheim, Maddie Luker, Brayden Luker, Christopher Connaughton and Dominick Connaughton.

Community 4-H Club is one of 8 local 4-H clubs within Johnson County. The Club was established and chartered in 2015 specifically for youth in Burleson to help non-traditional 4-H kids benefit from the program in the areas of community service, citizenship, leadership and public speaking. Community 4-H's motto is "Serving the Community/Building Leaders".

Community 4-H now has 35+ members who have projects varying from rabbits, to poultry; entomology to youth entrepreneurship; from public speaking to goats and sheep. Johnson County 4-H has over 370 4-H'ers and is one of the top 4-H counties in the state.
